JobPurpose:
As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will drive the mechanical development of next-generation data storage and server systems featuring high-density drive arrays and high-speed communication interfaces. Due to the complex interrelationships inherent in these advanced architectures, you must possess a broad and deep foundation in mechanical engineering, including sheet metal design, thermal analysis, shock/vibration mitigation, electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding, tolerance analysis, and acoustics.
Operating within highly collaborative, cross-functional project teams, your creative problem-solving, technical judgment, and leadership will be critical in resolving technical, logistical, cost, and schedule challenges. This is a high-impact, high-visibility opportunity for a driven individual with superior technical skills, strong project management abilities, and a passion for engineering excellence.
Nature ofDuties/Responsibilities:
• Design state-of-the-art mechanical architectures and components (including enclosures, sub-assemblies, drive mountings, and carriers) utilizing sheet metal and plastic design methodologies.
• Lead comprehensive system modeling and simulation to ensure "right-the-first-time" design accuracy, focusing heavily on tolerance stack-ups, usability, component reuse, and Design for Manufacturability (DFM).
• Research, develop, and implement emerging technologies new to Viking, with a specific focus on advanced thermal management solutions such as liquid cooling and advanced materials.
• Architect, prototype, and validate transport racks and crating systems to ensure product integrity throughout the supply chain.
• Partner closely with fabrication partners and outside suppliers to drive best-in-class manufacturing performance, ensuring cost targets, quality standards, and delivery schedules are met.
• Provide technical support to manufacturing teams during NPI (New Product Introduction) and production phases to resolve line issues and optimize assembly.
• Mentor junior engineers and technicians to foster a culture of technical growth. Actively contribute to Viking's competitive advantage by generating valuable intellectual property (IP).
Education and Experience:
• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or equivalent experience.
• Minimum8 years of hands-on product development experience specifically within the computer hardware, server, storage, or closely related high-tech industries.
• Advanced, expert-level proficiency with 3D CAD systems (SolidWorks preferred).
• Solid, comprehensive understanding of modern manufacturing technologies, toolings, and methodologies.
- Direct, hands-on experience with advanced liquid cooling systems is highly desirable.
Salary Range(annual): $115,000 - $140,000
Actual base pay within this range (determined at the offer stage) will be based on a candidate's years of relevant work experience, education, certifications, and skills, and is just one element of our total rewards package. The total rewards package also includes a variety of benefits, including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business and, depending on the role, may include eligibility for restricted stock unit awards and participation in a discretionary bonus program.
