Description
The Senior Plastic Manufacturing Engineer will be tasked with: Assessing the current manufacturing capabilities; Developing a manufacturing and capacity strategy for plastic components for current and future product programs; Determining the most effective methods to manufacture plastic components, and implementing equipment capacity and capability upgrades.
• Develops, evaluates and improves manufacturing methods to ensure production requirements can be met on time in a cost- effective and safe manner.
• Defining facility requirements for plastics molding processes.
• Commissions molding processes and equipment through the use of factory and site acceptance testing
• Creates assembly instructions for new products to be manufactured.
• Studies and records time, motion, methods and speed involved in performance of production and other worker operations to establish standard production rates and to improve efficiencies. Institutes changes in the production processes and/or recommends adjustments to product pricing.
• Performs engineering activities in compliance with established company and manufacturing standards, engineering principles, customer requirements, and related specifications.
• Ensure that any necessary tooling modification is properly defined and executed. Analyze tooling and processing problems.
• Confers with vendors to determine part specifications and recommends the purchase of equipment and materials used in manufacturing and production.
• Estimate production times, staffing requirements, and related costs for management decisions.
Confers with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes. Other duties may be assigned.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Plastic Process Engineering or similar or equivalent experience.
Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience with plastics molding processes and equipment.
Detailed understanding of plastics molding related process variables and their impact on throughput, quality, and yield rate.
Must have working knowledge of equipment design, mold design, controls, and set up and validation of robotic cells.
Strong foundation of problem-solving skills, statistical process control, Lean principles.
Comfortable in leading diverse multi-functional team.
Proficient in basic and field related software (i.e. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Minitab, Mold flow, etc.)
Six sigma or Lean certification
