Job Summary The Safety and Security Manager for the Ottawa, IL site plays a critical role as a member of the Site Management Team by providing strategic direction and leads technical execution of safety and security plans. This role provides strong leadership including communication skills needed to create a positive Safety culture of continuous improvement and engagement with all site personnel, both SABIC and contractors. This position ensures regulatory compliance for all applicable site/regional/global programs including safety, security, and emergency preparedness. This position reports directly to the Ottawa Site Senior Manager and has a dotted line reporting to the ABS/Compounding Group EHSS Manager.
How You Can Be the Impact- The Ottawa Site Safety and Security Manager designs and implements programs to prevent injury or illness from chemical, physical, biological, or ergonomic hazards
- Focuses on Life Saving Rules with specific attention to permit of work systems
- Promote a strong safety culture by delivering exemplary performance, conducting thorough investigations, ensuring diligent follow-ups, and driving continuous improvement through the implementation of root cause countermeasures and action plans
- Responsible for reviewing the work of contractors on company property to ensure compliance with Safety requirements
- Familiarity with OSHA construction management requirements
- Lead Safety Culture engagement programs and periodically review them to ensure they are accomplishing the desired results and providing continuous improvement
- Identifies unsafe behaviors and unsafe conditions in the workplace using regulatory requirements, recommends best safety practices
- Establishes and implements safety training programs to increase team member and management awareness of potential safety hazards
- Oversight of appropriate security regulations (i.e. USCG/Marsec) and emergency response requirements for the site.
- Develop and implement strategic actions aimed at reducing risks and incidents, improving performance, maintaining compliance and assuring an effective Management System.
- Participate as part of an effective, integrated site management team: provide both strategic and actionable Safety & Security direction and a representative for EHSS during a crisis
- Contribute toward positive relations with site employees, local community stakeholders, state and federal regulatory officials and customers through transparent communications and inclusive ways of working.
- Manage direct reports in safety, security and emergency response.
What Matters to SABIC- B.S. or equivalent in Safety/Health science or related field with a minimum of nine (9) years of experience in Manufacturing with a focus on Safety and Security.
- Preference towards Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or other Board CSP Credential/Equivalent, or someone that is working towards or willing to acquire.
- Advanced knowledge of industry practices/standards, excellent understanding and application of safety/regulatory requirements (federal, state and local) legal ramifications of non-compliance.
- The successful candidate must have strong leadership skills and be capable of leading in a participative management culture.
- Must contribute toward the development of site personnel and work seamlessly with other site functions.
- Must drive successful safety programs through employee involvement in a strong teamwork environment.
