About The Team And The Role:We are seeking a Senior Manager to join the Americas Indirect Tax team to drive the operational integration of tax requirements into our evolving global marketplace! You will own the Americas region's effort in scaling our tax infrastructure to support new business initiatives, M&A activities, and product innovation. This role requires a highly collaborative professional who can build strong cross-functional relationships, lead complex initiatives, and provide clear, actionable tax mentorship to collaborators across the organization.
What You Will Accomplish:- Serve as a team leader on the Americas Indirect Tax team, supporting business growth, product development, and market expansion initiatives
- Lead indirect tax M&A activities, including due diligence and post-acquisition integration
- Lead and drive cross-functional projects dedicated to US + Global business initiatives
- Collaborate with Government Relations and external industry groups to supervise and assess legislative changes across the US, Canada, & Latin America and communicate business impacts and implement internal controls to mitigate Indirect Tax Risks and Opportunities
- Provide strategic tax advice on complex issues, including legislative developments, business planning, and go-to-market strategies
- Lead tax technology and systems enhancement initiatives, including writing Business Requirement Documents, reviewing Product Requirements Documents, and ensuring compliance with evolving legislative and taxability changes
- Support the resolution of indirect tax audits by drafting technical positions, discussing with tax authorities and defending eBay's marketplace facilitator status and taxability determinations.
- Partner and build relationships with global teams across Product, Engineering, Legal, Accounting, Corporate Development, Finance, and Customer Service
- Develop and maintain tax policies, playbooks, and documentation to support consistent and scalable processes across diverse business units and geographies
- Identify and support implementation of AI-based efficiencies within the indirect tax lifecycle. This includes bringing to bear automation and machine learning to optimize taxability determinations, monitoring, mitigation risks and improve the speed and accuracy of legislative impact
- Design and deliver training materials to educate internal stakeholders
- Manage external advisors and consultants as needed
- Mentor and develop team members, fostering growth and knowledge sharing
What You Will Bring:- 12+ years of indirect tax experience in public accounting and/or the e-commerce industry
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Tax, Accounting, Legal, or a related field (advanced degree preferred)
- CPA or CMI certification preferred
- Fluency in English (additional languages a plus)
- Ability to work a 3 days per week, hybrid schedule in an eBay office
- Deep expertise in U.S. sales and use tax
- Solid understanding of indirect tax regimes in Canada, Mexico, and Latin America
- Proven ability to coordinate indirect tax due diligence and integration for M&A transactions
- Experience leading complex, cross-functional projects in a fast-paced environment from planning through execution
- Strong ability to communicate complex tax concepts clearly and effectively to non-technical stakeholders
- Familiarity with indirect tax trends impacting the digital economy
- Experience interacting with U.S. state and local tax authorities, as well as international tax authorities across the Americas
- Experience documenting tax positions, legislative impacts, and audit findings, including audit defense and appeals
- Experience managing indirect tax audits and interactions with tax authorities, including strategy, responses, and resolution.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a proactive and goal-oriented approach
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop talent
- Ability to collaborate effectively across global teams and time zones
- Additional Strength: Experience identifying and implementing AI/automation solutions to streamline tax research, document review, or taxability mapping.
Additional DetailsThe base pay range for this position is expected in the range below:
$135,200 - $219,500
Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
