This role provides strategic and operational leadership across EHSS-Assurance, Strategy, Standards, and Operational Excellence (OE) for DePuy Synthes. The Sr. Manager will play a critical role in strengthening global EHSS systems, driving continuous improvement, and ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and internal standards. This position has broad impact across the organization, influencing occupational safety, environmental health & sustainability compliance outcomes, and operational performance while partnering closely with cross-functional and global teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and evolve EHSS Assurance, Strategy, Standards, and Operational Excellence initiatives across the organization.
- Establish, deploy, and sustain global standards, policies, and governance models aligned with regulatory and internal requirements.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives using OE, Lean, and Six Sigma principles to improve quality, efficiency, and compliance outcomes.
- Partner cross-functionally with R&D, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Regulatory, and Commercial teams to embed quality by design and risk-based decision making.
- Lead preparation for and execution of internal, external, and regulatory audits, ensuring timely remediation and sustained compliance.
- Monitor and analyze quality performance metrics and trends to proactively identify risks and improvement opportunities.
- Provide people leadership, coaching, and development for quality and OE team members, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
- Serve as a key quality leader supporting strategic initiatives, transformations, and business integrations.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree required (Engineering, Life Sciences, EHSS, or related discipline).
- Master's degree preferred (Engineering, Quality, Business, or related field).
Experience and Skills
Required:
- Typically 8-10 years of progressive experience in EHSS, or Operational Excellence roles within a regulated industry (medical device, pharmaceutical, or healthcare preferred).
- Demonstrated experience leading EHSS strategy, standards, and continuous improvement initiatives at a regional or global level.
- Strong knowledge of EHSS systems, regulatory requirements, and audit processes (e.g., OSHA, ISO, global health authorities).
- Proven people leadership experience, including coaching, performance management, and team development.
Preferred:
- Experience supporting global or enterprise-wide EHSS transformations.
- Hands-on experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or Operational Excellence deployment.
- Prior experience in orthopedic, medical device, or highly regulated manufacturing environments.
- Experience partnering with senior leadership on EHSS governance and strategy.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and risk-based decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder-influencing skills across levels and functions.
Other:
- Language requirements: English required.
- Travel: Limited; up to 20%, domestic and international.
- Certifications (preferred): Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, or equivalent EHSS certifications.
Johnson & Johnson announced plans to separate our Orthopaedics business to establish a standalone orthopaedics company, operating as DePuy Synthes. The anticipated base pay range for this position is :$122,000.00 - $245,000.00
