What You’ll Be Doing

As the Data Governance Sr Manager, you will lead and manage Canadian Banking (CB) data governance activities and will have responsibility for improving the quality and managing the protection of sensitive data and information assets. In this position, you will focus on establishing and ensuring adherence to the CIBC data governance policies and procedures.  As a Data Governance Manager, you will have a direct impact on the business by helping to define, develop, and maintain business processes for successful data governance and quality within Commercial Banking.

How You'll Succeed 

  • Strategy & Guidance- Provide leadership and guidance on Data Governance initiatives in CB. Help Establish and govern a data governance implementation roadmap. Facilitate the roll out of CB wide data governance framework, with a focus on improvement of data quality and the protection of sensitive data through modifications to organization behavior policies and standards, principles, governance metrics, processes, related tools and data architecture. Define roles and responsibilities related to data governance and ensure clear accountability for stewardship of the company’s principal information assets in accordance with Enterprise Data Governance policies. Interface with senior management and contribute towards ongoing data quality improvement initiatives and ensuring that issues are escalated accordingly and in a timely manner. Contribute to successful completion of data governance project deliverables.  Participate in project and team meetings, interact and collaborate with team members and other departments as appropriate. Participate in CB Data Governance Council meetings providing program updates, informing of Policy and Standard changes, identification of quality issues, review of data intensive projects, status of remediation efforts and other program activities. 

  • Process Management - Serve as a liaison between Business and Functional areas and technology to ensure that data related business requirements for protecting critical data are clearly defined, communicated and well understood and considered as part of operational prioritization and planning. Maintain artifacts, including but not limited to, an inventory of applications, data governance roles, Data Governance Council materials, Data Custody Agreements (DCA), Data Sharing Risk Assessments (DSRA), Deviations & Deficiencies tracking, escalations, data dictionaries. Facilitate the development and implementation of data quality standards, data protection standards and adoption requirements across CB&WM. 

  • Reporting & Analytics- Define indicators of performance and quality metrics and ensure compliance with data related policies, standards, roles and responsibilities, and adoption requirements. In conjunction with the data stewards, provide progress reports to management and oversee periodic updates to the CB Data Governance procedures. Lead the remediation of data governance deficiencies across CB. Monitor adherence to data policies across the organization to ensure availability of high-quality data, consultative and subject matter expertise, ensuring all users of data understand policies, procedures and standards. Provide regular status reports to senior management regarding ongoing data management activities, performance metrics, issues and other program activities to enable awareness and tracking of program compliance and remediation efforts. 

     

Who You Are 

  • You can demonstrate a minimum of 5 years’ experience in supporting enterprise wide data governance including measuring/monitoring data quality, recommending improvements in data, data governance capabilities such as metadata ingestion, data mapping, business lineage & traceability, policy management, governance/quality metrics development & reporting, workflow and issue management, data stewardship management (roles and responsibilities), data classification and/or data catalogue management. You have 3 years process engineering experience with strong process development, project management, planning, tracking and organizational skills. 

  • You are a problem solver. You have exceptional critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills with demonstrated ability to independently identify and analyze business problems and recommend solutions.
