Schwab is recruiting an outcome driven, results-oriented, well organized, strategic data technology leader who shares our passion for technology, innovation, people, and excellence. Our main goal here at Schwab is to transform people’s lives by changing the way the world invests. We are in the midst of re-architecting and rebuilding our core enterprise data platform to support our rapidly growing and evolving business. The technical engineering leader will be a hands-on lead engineer with technical/business acumen and leadership experience that excels in a structured, dynamic, fast-moving environment and is passionate about developing high quality, high performance, and scalable solutions. The candidate will lead and work aside a team of seasoned engineers whose main objective is to maintain all aspects of the system health and ensure the on-time, quality delivery of software releases.

 

This position will be part of the Operational Data Exchange (ODX) Technology team within the Schwab Data organization focusing on providing Operational Intelligence and Insights, and position Schwab to remain a Data Driven organization using a world class Data Exchange (DX) platform. The DX support various critical business functions and business units – Finance, Futures & Forex Trading, Risk, Compliance, etc. This is a role for someone who is passionate and excited to learn/understand the business, build a solid team, focus on basics and streamline existing system to make is stable, and build a future state data platform that is going to be pivotal to drive client-centricity, reducing time to market, scale & increasing efficiency. In this role you will:

  • Provide strategic, technical and project leadership to data pipeline development.
  • Lead a high-performing team of data engineers and leads supporting data pipelines, reporting, and exchange across key business domains.
  • Drive end-to-end ownership of the analytics development lifecycle (ADLC), including intake, estimation, design, build, test, and support.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders (Product Owners, Data Architects, QA, and Infrastructure teams) to define priorities and resource allocation.
  • Implement best practices in SDLC, Agile/Scrum methodologies, and DevOps automation in a data engineering context.
  • Govern platform health, technical debt, and capacity planning while ensuring adherence to compliance, audit, and information security guidelines.
  • Manage performance, mentoring, and upskilling of talent across onshore and offshore teams.
  • Promote a culture of operational excellence, observability, and data quality through proactive monitoring and metrics.
  • Hands-on development and mentoring for all members of the team to ensure team and project success.
  • Drive outcomes and team performance, collaborate with all to achieve results, and think strategically.
  • Effectively navigate cross-functional communication to ensure alignment between teams and within one team.
  • Cultivate a culture of open feedback that promotes accountability for getting better together.
  • Collaborate with other shared functions to support application support and automation for deployments.
  • Create and maintain artifacts for production support and deployment processes and ensure smooth hand off to support teams.
  • Prior experience working with vendor resources in an onshore-offshore model and driving delivery and collaboration for maximum output.
  • Meet periodically with onshore and offshore developers and application support to review and improve processes.
What you have

Required

  • Expertise in ETL development, MS SQL Server database, TSQL/Stored Procedure, SSIS and SSRS
  • Exceptional track record in delivering results and business outcomes
  • Experience in building and maturing teams at different levels
  • Master’s or bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology or similar/equivalent area of study
  • Minimum of 5 years working in the financial services industry specifically supporting Futures & Forex.
  • Minimum of 15 years of solid data engineering experience.
  • Minimum of 7 years strategic project leadership experience in matrixed organization
  • Willingness to learn new skills and keep up with technology changes in future to meet business needs.
  • Strong understanding of Data Warehouse concepts (star schema, slowly changing dimensions, fact/dimension modeling) and Operational Data Exchanges/Stores.
  • Solid understanding of data lifecycle, metadata management, and governance standards.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills across technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to disagree, debate your case with data, and commit to deliver regardless of the outcome.

Preferred

  • Good understanding of latest Architecture and Development Standards and Guidelines
  • Experience providing guidance, direction, and feedback to other technical staff to meet agreed upon objectives.
  • Ability to analyze, propose and implement timely, cost effective, quality solutions for all issues or problems within area of responsibility.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required for composing and delivering technical presentations or other forms of documentation to various levels of technical and non-technical management.
  • Proficient managing multiple priorities in a well-organized, dynamic, geographically dispersed environment
  • Good understanding of Database and SQL
  • Good understanding of Data pipelines and patterns.
  • Experience in Python coding skills
  • Used AI in development lifecycle to gain efficiency
  • Experience in dev tools such as GitHub, Bamboo, Liquibase
  • Experience with mapping data required for regulatory, non-regulatory data needs
  • Experience and demonstrate proficiency in cloud-based technologies (GCP preferred).
  • In addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities.
