Job SummaryThe Sr. Credit Risk Manager serves as a senior execution leader responsible for counterparty credit risk management across North American natural gas trading activities (physical and financial). This role enables commercial growth within defined risk appetite by delivering timely, disciplined credit decisions that support front-office execution. Acting as the primary interface between Credit and Trading, the position ensures robust governance, portfolio oversight, and risk-controlled deal structuring within a fast-paced trading environment.
Job Duties & ResponsibilitiesCredit Decisioning
- Approve / challenge pre-deal credit exposure
- Assess counterparties (ratings, financials, structure)
- Support complex / structured transactions
- Deliver real-time credit decisions supporting trading activity
- Own credit approval and exposure management lifecycle
Portfolio Management
- Monitor daily exposure vs. limits
- Manage limit breaches, exceptions, and watchlist
- Identify concentration and wrong-way risk
- Maintain portfolio-level control (limits, concentrations, collateral)
Collateral & Structuring
- Support CSA negotiation and credit terms
- Optimize collateral usage (LCs, prepay, guarantees)
- Align risk-reward in deal structuring
Commercial Integration
- Act as embedded credit partner to traders
- Provide fast turnaround on credit approvals
- Enable growth without weakening controls
Governance & Reporting
- Produce exposure, concentration, and exception reporting
- Maintain clear documentation of credit decisions
- Support CRO / Risk Committee visibility
- Ensure audit-ready governance and reporting discipline
Systems & Data
- Ensure integrity of credit data in Endur
- Improve automation, exposure accuracy, and reporting
Job Specific Skills- Advanced counterparty credit analysis and underwriting expertise in energy trading
Strong knowledge of exposure measurement (MTM, potential future exposure, receivables risk) - Deep understanding of collateral structures and credit mitigation tools (LCs, CSAs, guarantees, prepay structures)
- Commercial acumen with the ability to balance risk controls and business growth
- Ability to operate effectively in a high-speed trading environment with rapid decision-making requirements
- Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, particularly with front-office trading teams
- High degree of analytical rigor and financial modeling capability
- Experience with ETRM systems (Endur preferred) and credit risk reporting tools
- Strong governance mindset with audit and documentation discipline
- Effective communication skills, with the ability to present credit recommendations to senior stakeholders
EducationMinimum: Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
Preferred: Advanced degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, or another quantitative discipline
ExperienceMinimum Requirements:
- 12+ years of experience in credit risk management within energy trading or commodities markets
- Demonstrated experience in:
- Counterparty credit underwriting
- Exposure management (MTM and receivables)
- Collateral and credit structuring
- Proven ability to support trading desks with real-time credit decisioning
Preferred Requirements:
- Experience with structured commodity or complex trading transactions
- Exposure to multi-commodity and/or global trading portfolios
- Direct experience with Endur or equivalent ETRM platforms
- Prior leadership or mentoring experience within a credit or risk function
