Summary:
The Senior Accounting Manager is a senior-level accounting leader responsible for the overall integrity, governance, and strategic direction of the hospital system's general ledger and related accounting functions. This role oversees multiple accounting teams through direct management of three Accounting Managers, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and compliance across all entities. This position provides technical accounting leadership, drives enterprise-wide process improvements, and plays a critical role in financial reporting, audit coordination, and system optimization. This is a RUSH system-level role encompassing RUMC (RUH, University, and Ambulatory Pharmacy), ROPH, RCMC, Rush Health, RMG, and joint ventures.

Required Job Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
• CPA required.
• 8-10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 5+ years in a leadership roles managing manager or large teams.
• Strong technical accounting expertise (US GAAP)
• Proven ability to lead complex accounting functions in a large, matrixed organization
• Experience overseeing financial close and audit processes
• Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and drive results in a fast-paced environment
• Advanced proficiency in Workday and Microsoft Excel
Preferred Job Qualifications:
• Experience in healthcare or large, complex organizations or public accounting experience preferred.

Responsibilities:
Technical Accounting & Compliance
• Oversee complex accounting areas and ensure appropriate application of US GAAP across the organization.
• Review and approve high-risk or complex accounting treatments, including capital projects, debt, and system-level transactions.
• Ensure strong internal controls environment and compliance with organizational policies.
• Lead the development, implementation, and governance of accounting policies.
Cross- Functional Collaboration
• Partner with Finance leadership and operational teams on accounting matters.
• Support enterprise initiatives, including ERP implementation, system integrations, and process redesign.
• Act as a key advisor on the accounting implications of strategic initiatives and new programs.
Financial Reporting & Analysis
• Review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for accuracy and completeness.
• Prepare technical accounting analyses for complex transactions (e.g., leases, capital projects, restricted funds).
• Support preparation of audit schedules and respond to external auditor inquiries.
Leadership & Oversight
• Provide leadership and direction to multiple Accounting Managers and their respective teams.
• Establish priorities, allocate resources, and ensure alignment across accounting functions.
• Drive accountability for timely and accurate financial close and reporting deliverables.
• Develop and mentor leadership talent; build a high-performing, scalable accounting organization.
Systems & Process Improvement
• Provide strategic oversight of general ledger systems, including Workday optimization.
• Lead system-wide initiatives to enhance automation, standardization, and efficiency.
• Drive adoption of reconciliation and close management tools (e.g., BlackLine, Trintech).
• Champion continuous improvement initiatives to reduce cycle time and increase data reliability.
