Job Description Summary
The Sr. Machining Engineer acts as a high-level technical expert and supervisor on the shop floor, overseeing CNC/manual machining operations, complex setups, and mentoring junior staff. As a member of the Engineering team, you will be an active contributor to the factory volume ramp and standardization efforts.
A Machining Technical Leader will work onsite at our Investment Casting Foundry in Schenectady Cores and Castings where you will get to work with innovative technologies, and SX/DS buckets.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Assure that all owned equipment are operating as designed, including all safety features.
  • Generate, verify and maintain CNC programs utilizing NX-CAM or equivalent software. This will include multi-axis milling, waterjet cutting, sinker EDM, wire EDM as well as any future CNC machines that will be used in the factory.
  • Provide CNC related support to Process and Product Engineering in their machining needs.
  • Train and qualify operators during new / rebuilt machine startup, process improvements and new product introductions. Assure operators are trained in all equipment safety features. Contribute to Management of Change, Safety Risk Assessments and LOTO on all owned equipment. Establish operator skill levels to assure depth and breadth of skills. Create a skills assessment tool.
  • Establish process controls to reduce process excursions via data analysis. Perform engineering trials to evaluate process improvement and to improve fixtures/jigs/tooling.Responsible for the good functioning and standardization of processes.
  • Provide daily operator support in the form of CNC programming and troubleshooting support to the shop floor.
  • Design, manage, support and implement tooling & fixturing requirements associated with CNC machine and requirements.
  • Define/update/revise work instructions and procedures required to assure operators perform tasks consistently.
  • Perform periodic audits. Work with QA and Product Engineers to implement customer requirements. Develop PFMEA and MCP for processes owned. Own some of the Built-in-Quality initiatives.
  • Initiate and lead process improvement projects to improve safety, quality, cost and delivery via rigorous investigation, problem solving and daily monitoring of processes .
  • Ensure PM are done on time for the equipment and help with the diagnostic of machine failure. Lead maintenance initiatives to reach budgeted OA.
  • Provide effective communication to appropriate team members when needed.
  • Work effectively as an individual and in a team-based environment in a matrixed organization. Daily interface with manufacturing, management, and product team.
  • Work effectively in a fast-paced environment while embracing and driving positive change inside and outside the organization when appropriate.
  • This position involves a "hands-on" approach with consistent presence on the production floor, during Gemba walks at the beginning of the shift and a daily check-in with operators, maintenance, and leaders.

Required qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering with 8 years of experience with graphical based 3D modulization system and CAM System CNC Programming [OR] Associates degree or High School Degree w/12 years of experiencewith graphical based 3D modulization system with graphical based CAM System CNC Programming.
  • Experience in designing EDM CNC fixture and creating multi-axis EDM CNC programs. EDM Process knowledge (spark gap, flushing, electrode wear compensation, burn time, etc).
  • Experience creating 5-axis CNC programs using a CAM system.
  • Experience using Vericut (preferred) or other CNC verification/machine simulation software.
  • Minimum of 3 year of experience with high-level machine tool controls including sub-routine(macro), Renishaw or equivalent probing routine, and variable based programming, as well as CLM (closed loop machining).

Eligibility Requirements

  • This position is 100% onsite at the GE Schenectady plant and 1st shift. This position involves a consistent presence on the production floor with a daily check-in with operators, maintenance and leaders.

  • Must be currently legally authorized to work in the USA without sponsorship now or in the future. This role requires use of technical data subject to U.S. Government export restrictions and this posting is only for U.S. Persons (U.S. Citizens, lawful permanent residents, and protected individuals (e.g., certain refugees and asylees)). GE will require proof of status prior to employment.

  • Relocation assistance considered only within the USA.

Desired qualifications

  • Experience machining high temperature superalloys found in HDGT or Aerospace components.
  • Experience in designing no-lift fixtures.
  • Strong problem solving and organization skills, with above average shop math skills in geometry and trigonometry.
  • Strong familiarity with multiple machine controls including Fanuc, Mitsubishi, Sodick.
  • Demonstrated proficiency interpreting drawing requirements.
  • Ability to multi-task and productively manage multiple projects concurrently.

Relocation Assistance Provided:

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $104,600.00 and $174,400.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidates experience, education, and skill set.

Bonus eligibility: discretionary annual bonus.
