The Worldwide Sustainability Regulatory Reporting team is looking for a detail focused, results-oriented and collaborative individual to support Amazon's global sustainability disclosure processes. Your work will help scale Amazon's regulatory reporting infrastructure and deliver high-quality sustainability disclosures by partnering cross-functionally to understand Amazon's environmental programs and key metrics.
You will be responsible for preparing for compliance with climate-related reporting under emerging regulations, including the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and required reporting based on the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) frameworks, and delivering Amazon's regulatory reports in a rapidly evolving global environment. This will involve establishing external reporting processes, assessing and collecting key metrics from partner teams, resolving reporting decisions, and drafting disclosures. You will work cross-functionally with Worldwide Sustainability, Legal, Finance, and Accounting and will present results to senior leadership.
To do well in this role, you must be able to confidently handle complex projects and provide a point of view in situations of high ambiguity. You must also show good judgment to continually improve Amazon's business model to develop robust and integrated reporting efforts and enhance emerging sustainability reporting best practices.
Key job responsibilities
- Evaluate emerging regulations, standards, and frameworks and develop preparation plans, with a particular focus on climate metrics and disclosures.
- Execute reporting processes such as double materiality assessments and value chain mapping.
- Design and implement enhanced governance mechanisms to ensure adequate oversight and control over sustainability reporting.
- Analyze Sustainability performance against key goals. Draft performance narratives, including narratives related to climate mitigation, adaptation, and energy use, and in partnership with the Accounting, Finance, Legal, and Environment teams.
- Work with Worldwide Sustainability subject matter experts to develop precise disclosures of Amazon's calculation methodologies for voluntary and regulatory sustainability reporting. Ensure disclosures meet external assurance standards and provide stakeholders with clear explanations of the criteria and methodologies used to calculate key metrics (e.g., greenhouse gas emissions, energy consumption, GHG mitigation and carbon credits, and climate risk assessment results).
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 7 years of experience working in sustainability reporting, sustainability assurance, environment, or legal fields.
- Deep understanding of the emerging sustainability regulatory environment (e.g., California Climate Rules, CSRD, European Sustainability Reporting Standards, EU taxonomy, and ISSB), and of specific sustainability reporting frameworks and standards (e.g., GHG Protocol and Global Reporting Initiative).
- Strong expertise in GHG Scope 1, 2, and 3 accounting.
- Technical experience performing climate risk assessments and/or data analytics to uncover insights.
- Experience understanding complex data and creating new disclosures in alignment with specific reporting criteria.
- Ability to create and execute a sustainability disclosure strategy that considers and prioritizes the needs of various stakeholders.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience directly performing independent third-party assurance or managing external audit firms.
- Sustainability reporting accreditation/certification (e.g. GRI Certified Sustainability Professional, ISSB (IFRS) Sustainability Fundamentals Certificate).
- Experience with external reporting solutions such as Workiva and familiarity with XBRL tagging.
- Experience managing consultants, including developing external-facing reports (e.g., design, content development, etc.).
The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
