Purpose of Role:The purpose of the Senior Health & Safety Specialist is to serve as the operational safety lead for the Copper World site, driving a proactive hazard-prevention culture and ensuring total compliance with MSHA and corporate safety standards. Reporting to the Health & Safety Manager and managing site-level Health & Safety Technicians, this role bridges executive safety strategy with day-to-day mine operations. By leading complex incident investigations, executing robust risk-mitigation programs, and overseeing regulatory field readiness, the Senior Specialist protects the health and well-being of all site personnel while safeguarding the project from operational disruptions and regulatory risk.
Role Accountabilities:- Leadership & Team Management: Directly supervise and mentor Health & Safety Specialists.
- Site Management & Inspection: Oversee daily field operations, conduct routine site audits, and identify occupational hazards across mining, processing, and construction areas.
- Incident Investigation & Root Cause Analysis: Lead investigations for site incidents, near-misses, and injuries using formal root-cause analysis protocols (e.g., 5-Why, TapRooT). Implement preventative action items.
- Regulatory Compliance: Maintain full compliance with MSHA and OSHA regulations. Serve as the primary site liaison during regulatory inspections and audits.
- Program Development: Design and roll out critical risk management initiatives, emergency response plans, and job safety analyses (JSAs).
- Training & Onboarding: Oversee required site safety training, including MSHA Part 48 certifications, contractor orientations, and specialized task training
Minimum Qualifications and Education:- Education: Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety or a related technical field
- Experience: 7+ years of professional health and safety experience specifically within a high-hazard industrial environment (Mining, Oil & Gas, or Heavy Construction).
- Software Proficiency: Advanced Google Workspace Administrator skills.
Preferred Qualifications:- Certifications: * Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Mine Safety Professional (CMSP)
- MSHA Approved Instructor
