Overview

McGuireWoods has an opportunity for a detail-oriented analyst to join its Finance team as a Senior Financial Analyst in our Richmond office. This role will support multiple legal departments by developing comprehensive financial reporting and analytical frameworks to drive strategic decision-making across the firm. The Senior Financial Analyst serves as the primary financial resource to provide interpretive guidance on key metrics, variance analyses, and profitability insights to Department Chairs, partners, and lawyers, while collaborating across departmental and geographic lines to deliver client/matter pricing models, engagement analyses, and revenue optimization presentations that support the firm's growth objectives.

Responsibilities

Provide comprehensive analysis with identification of trends, root causes, linkage to broader business context and recommendations for possible course corrections. Prepare Department Chairs to present their department's quarterly financial performance to senior firm management; the Senior Financial Analyst participates in the quarterly financial performance meetings.
  • Prepare client/matter pricing analyses. This includes consulting with lawyers on ways to improve the financial performance of current and proposed arrangements. Help develop Alternative Fee Arrangements (AFAs) and monitor progress against project budgets and profitability targets.
  • Perform lateral hiring analyses for new lawyers or groups that join the firm. This includes providing advice on determining standard billing rates, billable hours targets and compensation and bonus structures.
  • Help review the monthly/quarterly/annual reports prepared by Associate Financial Analysts. Will also distribute reports to the intended recipients once finalized.
  • Prepare periodic analyses and written summaries of multiple key firm clients' financial performance. The analyses will be shared with responsible partners, Department Chairs and senior firm management.
