Full Job Description
Position Summary

This is the career-level position within the Engineering Technologist classification. The Senior Engineering Technologist provides advanced technical expertise to solve complex technical problems and supports the execution of field testing, diagnostics, and analysis of power plant systems. The role operates with minimal supervision and is expected to work independently with significant latitude in decision-making and execution. This position supports the Maintenance & Diagnostics (M&D) Performance Testing function by performing hands-on field testing, technical troubleshooting, and analysis to improve plant reliability, efficiency, and overall performance across the regulated fleet.

Responsibilities

  • Provides subject matter expertise in the identification, analysis, and resolution of complex technical problems.
  • Plans, organizes, estimates, schedules, and monitors work activities to ensure accomplishment of business goals and objectives.
  • Executes field performance testing of power plant equipment and systems, including setup, operation, troubleshooting, and validation of test equipment.
  • Analyzes test data and system performance to identify issues and support development of recommendations for plant personnel.
  • Independently prepares technical reports, calculations, documentation, and test results.
  • Conducts engineering and technical studies in support of plant performance, maintenance, and operational improvements.
  • Maintains and calibrates specialized test equipment used for field diagnostics and performance testing.
  • Develops and maintains strong working relationships with station personnel and cross-functional teams to coordinate work activities.
  • Maintains accurate technical records and documentation of all testing and analysis activities.
  • Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Supports company goals and represents the company in a positive and professional manner.
  • Coaches and mentors less experienced team members.


Required/Basic Qualifications

  • Either 4+ years of relevant industry experience coupled with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Engineering Technology, or 6+ years of experience and Associate Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology, or 8+ years equivalent experience without a degree


Desired Qualifications

  • In addition to desired degree, 12 years related work experience


Additional Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with power plant systems, including boilers, gas turbines, HRSGs, turbines, air-operated valves, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Experience with ultrasonic flow testing.
  • Experience in field performance testing, diagnostics, and troubleshooting of plant systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Experience with technical reporting, data analysis, and testing instrumentation.
  • Ability to provide and receive technical guidance and mentorship to peers.


Working Conditions
  • Field Mobility Classification - Work will be performed in various field locations, as needed, after the onboarding period. However, field employees are required to live within a reasonable daily commute to their assigned work location
  • Based out of a central lab, drive to a plant location to perform on-site testing.
  • Generally working as a self-directed team of two with limited supervision by the plant.
  • Power plant conditions working in the field. Exposure to heat, humidity and cold depending on the location.
  • Incidental work from heights.
  • Install, connect, disconnect field test equipment. Set up portable mesh data networks.
  • Daily travel with some overnight for extended tests at distant locations.
