We are looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to join our team in Cedar Rapids, IA. Our goal is to create technologies that allow Collins to differentiate our products from the competitors' and create new market opportunities through innovation. That means we need to take risks that, if successful, could lead to large rewards. We're creating state-of-the-art microelectronics, including: secure system in package processors, open architecture systems, and multifunction reconfigurable RF equipment for communication, radar, and electronic warfare.

What You Will Do
  • Lead and develop a team of 10-14 engineers, including hiring, coaching, performance management, and career development.
  • Drive research and development in advanced microelectronics technologies, leading innovation and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Oversee the technical execution of R&D projects, ensuring successful delivery of cost, schedule, quality, and manufacturability objectives.
  • Partner with customers, program leadership, and cross-functional teams across Collins and RTX to transition emerging technologies into future products.
  • Guide technology strategy by identifying IR&D investments, supporting externally funded research pursuits, and shaping future technology roadmaps.
  • Provide technical leadership in microelectronics, including processor, RF/analog, open systems, and secure microelectronics technologies while presenting concepts to customers and stakeholders.
  • Build strong relationships across internal and external organizations, with up to 15% domestic and international travel.


Qualifications You Must Have
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
  • Proven experience leading, coaching, and developing high-performing engineering teams.
  • Demonstrated technical expertise across multiple engineering disciplines with the ability to solve complex technical challenges and guide system-level decisions.
  • Experience with U.S. Government programs, including familiarity with the proposal and capture process.
  • Strong understanding of systems engineering principles and the full product development lifecycle.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and mitigate technical, program, and execution risks while making data-driven decisions.
  • Demonstrated experience capturing and managing system requirements using tools such as DOORS, Jama, Cameo.


Qualification We Prefer
  • Experience leading programs using Agile development methodologies.
  • Familiarity with civil and/or military certification standards (e.g., DO-254, MIL-STD-516) and environmental qualification testing.
  • Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and design tools such as Cameo, Simulink, or Altium.
  • Experience supporting successful bid and proposal efforts, including technology capture and funding pursuits.
  • Knowledge of Earned Value Management (EVM), Cost Account Management (CAM), or other program execution and financial management practices.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence customers and cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to thrive in an innovative, fast-paced environment with evolving requirements and emerging technologies.
  • Experience leading or supporting successful bid and proposal efforts that resulted in contract awards or research funding.

The salary range for this role is 132,400 USD - 251,600 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
