The Opportunity

Hinge Health is looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to lead a software engineering team inside Hardware R&D, focused on the software systems behind a connected medical device experience. This role sits at the intersection of consumer software, connected devices, clinical workflows, and regulated product delivery. You will own a single, high-complexity engineering team that spans mobile, backend, BLE, and hardware-adjacent software, and will be responsible for building a platform that is reliable, compliant, and adaptable enough to support rapid product iteration in a demanding domain.

You will partner closely with Product, Clinical, Regulatory, Hardware Engineering, Data, Member Support, and Quality/Compliance teams to define strategy, ship high-quality products, and ensure the device experience is safe, scalable, and delightful for our members end to end.
What You'll Accomplish

In your first 3 months:
  • Build a deep understanding of our device ecosystem, including FDA-regulated device software, BLE connectivity, mobile and backend platforms, and the clinical and operational workflows that support them.
  • Establish clear team priorities, execution rhythms, and ways of working, including backlog quality, sprint planning, delivery goals, and retrospectives.
  • Develop strong partnerships with Product, Clinical, Regulatory, Hardware Engineering, Data, Member Support, and Quality/Compliance counterparts to ensure alignment on goals, constraints, and quality expectations.

In your first 6 months:
  • Orchestrate large cross-functional programs that span device, mobile, backend, and operations, proactively uncovering corner cases and non-functional risks (reliability, security, performance, scalability).
  • Drive technical strategy across mobile, backend, device-control, and BLE surfaces so the platform can support both rapid product iteration and long-term maintainability.
  • Establish strong quality and compliance practices for regulated software, including structured review points with regulatory and quality partners, release gating, tech debt paydown plans, and operational feedback loops.
  • Lead a team that owns production health in an on-call, continuous delivery environment, improving incident response, observability, and reliability over time.

In your first year:
  • Translate member pain points, support signals, and product goals into engineering investments that materially improve reliability, reduce support burden, and strengthen the member experience for our device products.
  • Lead the software roadmap in close partnership with cross-functional stakeholders, balancing member experience, technical quality, operational reliability, and regulatory constraints across the platform.
  • Hire, coach, and develop engineers and emerging technical leaders, building a high-performance, high-accountability culture within a complex and high-ambiguity remit.
  • Contribute beyond your immediate team through interview design, leveling clarity, process improvements, and broader engineering stewardship across Hardware R&D and the wider engineering organization.
Who You Are
  • You are an experienced engineering leader who thrives at the intersection of consumer software, connected devices, and regulated product delivery, and you are comfortable operating in high-ambiguity, high-accountability environments.
  • You are a strong systems thinker who can reason across mobile apps, backend services, BLE/device-control flows, and operational workflows, making clear time-versus-cost tradeoffs for stakeholders.
  • You are a builder of teams: you hire, coach, and develop engineers and emerging leaders, and you create a culture of ownership, psychological safety, and high standards for quality and compliance.
  • You are a trusted cross-functional partner who collaborates deeply with Product, Clinical, Regulatory, Hardware, Data, and Operations to deliver outcomes, not just ship features.
  • You are comfortable owning production health and operational excellence in an on-call, continuous delivery environment, and you use data, telemetry, and support signals to continuously improve the system.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of experience leading and managing engineering teams, including managing 5+ direct reports through hiring, coaching, and performance management.
  • Experience delivering production software for connected devices, BLE-enabled systems, device-control flows, or in close partnership with firmware and hardware teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with healthcare, HIPAA, GDPR, FDA-regulated products, or other software in regulated environments.
  • Track record of delivering complex, cross-functional programs in environments with high quality, reliability, or compliance expectations.
  • Familiarity with modern mobile, backend, and platform systems, for example technologies such as React Native, Python, TypeScript, GraphQL, Docker, AWS, Postgres, Redis, or comparable systems.
  • Experience building test infrastructure, simulation layers, or developer productivity tooling for complex, distributed systems.
  • Experience leading teams that own production health in an on-call, continuous delivery environment.
  • Experience using AI-assisted prototyping or engineering workflows thoughtfully in product development.
