Sr. Engineer - Ammunition SystemsPosition SummaryThe Senior Engineer - Ammunition Systems serves as a technical lead responsible for complex engineering activities supporting the design, development, qualification, and sustainment of ammunition products. This role provides technical ownership of assigned engineering tasks, leads problem-solving efforts, and ensures technical solutions meet performance, safety, and regulatory requirements.
The Senior Engineer operates with a high degree of autonomy and is expected to guide technical decision-making, mentor junior engineers, and support cross-functional teams throughout the product lifecycle.
Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical Ownership & Engineering Leadership
- Lead engineering efforts for ammunition equipment, components, or product improvements
- Provide technical direction on complex engineering challenges and design decisions.
- Serve as the responsible engineer for assigned technical areas or products.
- Lead design reviews and technical risk assessments.
Product Development & Lifecycle Management
- Lead design, analysis, and validation activities for ammunition products and equipment.
- Evaluate design changes, performance improvements, and manufacturing impacts.
- Ensure engineering solutions meet technical requirements, safety standards, and regulatory constraints.
- Support transition of new designs from development to production.
Testing & Technical Problem Resolution
- Plan and lead engineering testing, and qualification activities.
- Oversee the installation, testing, and commissioning of ammunition equipment.
- Analyze test results and lead root cause investigations for technical issues.
- Implement corrective actions and design improvements to resolve performance challenges.
Manufacturing & Production Engineering Support
- Provide senior-level engineering support for complex production issues.
- Evaluate manufacturing processes for technical risk and improvement opportunities.
- Support continuous improvement efforts to enhance product performance and production efficiency.
Configuration & Documentation Governance
- Oversee engineering documentation quality and configuration integrity.
- Review and approve engineering changes and technical documentation updates.
- Ensure technical data packages remain accurate and compliant.
Cross-Functional Technical Leadership
- Collaborate with Program Management, Operations, Quality, Safety, and Supply Chain teams.
- Mentor junior engineers and support development of engineering talent.
- Support proposal activities and technical planning for new product opportunities when required.
QualificationsEducationBachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related engineering discipline required.
Master's degree preferred.
Experience7-12+ years of engineering experience supporting ammunition systems, energetics, defense products, or similar high-consequence technologies.
Experience leading engineering tasks or technical workstreams is strongly preferred.
