Job Description

Development and design of Electrical/Instrumentation & Controls systems and other complex engineering drawings for nuclear power plants in a 2-D or 3-D environment. Position requires individual to exercise independent judgment to develop designs with minimal direction from Design Supervisor, Design Lead or Engineering and will concurrently support multiple projects. Ability to perform walk downs of equipment in an industrial plant environment, to include climbing ladders, working at heights, carrying equipment up to 50 pounds, accessing security controlled areas, and entering confined spaces and controlled hazardous (e.g. high temperatures, high radiation) areas is required.

Responsibilities

Individual will be responsible for the development and design of Electrical/Instrumentation & Controls systems and other complex engineering drawings in a 2-D or 3-D environment. Individual will be responsible to check drawings for accuracy including dimensions, spelling, drafting standards and completeness utilizing correct project design criteria. Participation in field walk downs, as necessary, to obtain measurements, verify as-built documentation, and develop field sketches in support of plant modifications and design installations will occasionally be required. Position requires the individual to exercise independent judgment to develop designs with minimal direction from Design Supervisor, Design Lead or Engineering and will concurrently support multiple projects. The individual will communicate with project engineers and other disciplines to develop drawings and resolve design discrepancies. The ability to interface with the customer and their construction representatives to integrate designs to satisfy their standards as well as a proven ability to oversee multi-disciplined design projects is a must for this position.

Qualifications

Education Required: Associates Degree in drafting, design or engineering technology or 4 years of equivalent experience in the design of systems.

Experience Required: Must have 9 years (minimum) of experience in engineering drafting and strong familiarity in the design of electrical/instrumentation and controls systems in addition to education requirements.

Preferred Experience: Knowledge or use of Raster Design or 3D modeling experience is a plus. Recent plant modification package development and/or field experience on nuclear power plant projects is a plus.

Other Qualifications Required: All applicants must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and a demonstrated ability to direct drafting personnel on drawing assignments is required. Proficient in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation CAD software packages and Microsoft Office software, Word, Excel, etc. is required with competency in software applications for email and databases. Knowledge or use of Raster Design or 3D modeling experience a plus. Demonstrated technical knowledge of design practices, codes and standards applicable to mechanical systems is required. A working knowledge of structural design principles and practices is necessary. Effective time management skills are required. A working knowledge of budgeting, scheduling and estimating of Mechanical design activities is also important. Ability to pass security and drug screening, and maintain unescorted nuclear plant access is required. Recent plant modification package development and/or field experience on nuclear power plant projects as well as familiarity with project management principles and practices are a plus. Successful candidate will be required to understand and comply with company policies, procedures, and processes. Overtime work is required.
