About Your Role
Assist the Senior Credit Officer (SCO) or Credit Officer (CO) in the execution of Commercial Lending Loan portfolio strategies to ensure organization goals and objectives are achieved in a manner that fulfills regulatory compliance and adherence to credit policy. In conjunction with the SCO or CO, develop, establish, and recommend lending practices for the credit quality of the Commercial Loan portfolio. Provide guidance, training and leadership to a team of Credit Portfolio Managers and Credit Analysts. Establish and maintain effective portfolio credit risk management practices to ensure credit quality is maintained and support a risk balanced growth of the Commercial Lending loan portfolio. Identify revenue opportunities within the existing portfolio.

What You Will Do
1. In support of the SCO or CO, assist in the execution of portfolio credit risk management activities to ensure credit quality is effectively maintained and support a risk balanced growth of large and complex Commercial Lending Loan portfolio.

2. Perform efficient and concise detailed analysis and quality underwriting of commercial loan proposals including the most complex Commercial Lending relationships.

3. In partnership with the Commercial Relationship Managers and Regional Managers, establish and maintain relationships with current and prospective customers.

4. Ensure underwriting for all renewals, extensions, annual reviews and new requests in their assigned portfolio are completed accurately and timely.

5. Monitor reports for the assigned portfolio, including, but not limited to, maturing loans, financial exceptions, annual reviews, post-closing and documentation exceptions, financial covenants, watchlist and past due loans.

6. Perform review and consultation on the largest and most complex credit relationships. Conduct thorough analysis for loan requests to recommend approval, denial or offer alternative structuring solutions. Identify any deviations from the Commercial Loan Policy as appropriate. Prepare comprehensive written analysis, succinctly summarize underlying risk, and recommend risk rating.

7. Review analyses performed by Credit Analyst staff and, as applicable, incorporate into overall risk assessment.

8. Recommend and approve credit decisions within established authority in conjunction with Credit Officer or Senior Credit Officer if applicable. Ensure adherence to all applicable laws, regulations and company guidelines as detailed in the Bank's credit policy.

9. Provide guidance and mentorship to junior level credit staff.

10. Provide credit and compliance expertise in the evaluation of risk ratings. Guide team in making revision recommendations as necessary and appropriate.

11. Ensure all required documentation is collected and maintained as required by existing policy.

12. Proactively identify deteriorating loans through effective monitoring of the portfolio to include review of monthly maturity reports, daily overdraft activity reports and weekly past dues reports. Report deteriorating credit situations in a timely manner.

13. In conjunction with the SCO or CO, maintain the overall credit quality of the loan portfolio by pro-actively identifying the impact of current economic and market trends on the portfolio; take appropriate action to mitigate and control risks.

14. Perform analysis of secondary sources of repayment such as collateral; assess the quality and source of collateral marketability in a liquidation scenario.

15. Perform analysis of a guarantor's financial position through a thorough investigation of personal financial statements to develop an understanding of any contingent liabilities and constructing an estimated personal net cash flow through the thorough investigation of personal tax returns and credit reporting documentation.

16. Prepare comprehensive written analysis for loan proposals including summary of financial statements, cash flow trends, management profiles, business and product cycles, operating performance and appropriate economic and market research.

17. Assign a credit risk rating.

18. Ensure loan terms and conditions adhere to established credit policy. Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations, agency guidelines and organization policies.

19. Participate in the development and implementation of tools and practices to facilitate sound decision making.

20. May have direct management of Credit Portfolio Managers, and/or Credit Analysts. Manage production and monitor workflow for the credit team.

21. May need to manage criticized and classified credits.

What We Expect of You
  • Thorough knowledge of commercial lending process with a demonstrated expertise in credit evaluation underwriting and portfolio monitoring. Proven ability to analyze participation loans and other loans with complex covenant structures.
  • Expert knowledge and understanding of credit approval policy and process with the proven ability to accurately interpret lending policy and apply same to the management of the portfolio.
  • Knowledge and understanding of qualitative portfolio analytics and metrics with the ability to utilize automated and manual analytical tools and techniques, including "what-if" scenarios and in-depth projective financial analysis to the most complex lending scenarios.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of applicable banking regulations and laws governing commercial lending and application of same to portfolio management administration and processes.
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of credit and financial analysis tools and techniques.
  • Ability to identify and quantify business risks and the key drivers of risk and focus decisions accordingly. General understanding of bank's overall portfolio mix, concentration and exposure limits, risk philosophy. Ability to understand client industry and it's fit into portfolio parameters.
  • Good working knowledge of bank operating systems and information technology as related to Commercial Lending.
  • Proven expertise in managing credit approvals and policy.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional internal partner and external client relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide guidance and leadership to less seasoned staff.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate financial analysis detail in a clear, concise manner. Confident in the ability to present to senior management and/or Management Credit Committee as necessary.
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to set priorities in a multi-task environment and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office with specific capability in Word and Excel.


YOUR QUALIFICATIONS
  • 8-10 years progressively responsible experience in commercial credit lending, with a minimum of 5 years progressively responsible experience in credit evaluation, portfolio risk assessment, and underwriting.
  • Demonstrated success in a leadership capacity.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or Economics, or equivalent work experience.


Internal and External Contacts
  • Internal contacts consist of customers in portfolio and Bank personnel.
  • External contacts consist of outside COI's including accountants and attorneys.

  • Ability to communicate in order to exchange simple to complex information with individuals and groups.
  • Ability to travel throughout Bank footprint.
