The Department of Urology has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Senior Bioinformatics Analyst work on-site in Miami.
CORE JOB SUMMARY The Senior Bioinformatics Analyst works with research staff to extend capabilities in bioinformatics and improve understanding of genetic variation in human health and disease. The Senior Bioinformatics Analyst also assumes responsibility for the development and maintenance of novel bioinformatics methods.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS - Develops and maintains next generation data analysis pipelines.
- Assists in analysis pipeline and algorithms development and validation.
- Extracts features of interest from data relating to specific biological questions.
- Contributes to the development and maintenance of genomic and clinical databases.
- Performs statistical and integrative data analysis on genomics and clinical data.
- Supervises team members and other data analysts.
- Establishes standard operating procedures, documentation, and scripts to generate custom reports.
- Progresses material for bioinformatics tutorials and training courses.
- Tests the characterization and integration of diverse third-party bioinformatics algorithms.
- Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

DEPARTMENT ADDENDUMDepartment Specific FunctionsThe Sharifi Laboratory is seeking a highly motivated Bioinformatics Analyst to support translational and mechanistic studies focused on prostate cancer progression, steroid metabolism, androgen signaling, therapeutic resistance, and biomarker discovery. The successful candidate will work closely with laboratory scientists and clinicians to analyze genomic, transcriptomic, epigenomic, metabolomic, and clinical datasets and contribute to high-impact cancer research.
- Design, implement, and maintain computational workflows for analysis of high-throughput metabolomics, sequencing and multi-omic datasets.
- Analyze bulk RNA-seq, single-cell RNA-seq, DNA sequencing, spatial transcriptomics, proteomic, metabolomic, and clinical data.
- Integrate molecular and clinical datasets to identify biomarkers associated with treatment response, disease progression, and patient outcomes.
- Perform statistical analyses and develop reproducible pipelines using modern bioinformatics tools and programming languages.
- Contribute to studies investigating androgen biosynthesis, steroid metabolism, androgen receptor signaling, and mechanisms of therapeutic resistance in prostate cancer.
- Support analysis of patient-derived datasets, clinical cohorts, and public cancer genomics resources including TCGA, cBioPortal, GEO, dbGaP, and other consortium datasets.
- Develop data visualization tools and generate publication-quality figures and reports.
- Collaborate with laboratory investigators on experimental design, data interpretation, and manuscript preparation.
- Maintain rigorous standards for reproducible research, version control, documentation, and data management.
- Assist in preparation of grant applications, progress reports, and scientific presentations.
Department Specific Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in relevant field required, M.S. or Ph.D. preferred
- Demonstrated experience analyzing metabolomics and next-generation sequencing data.
- Strong programming skills in R and/or Python.
- Proficiency with bioinformatics software and workflow frameworks.
- Strong understanding of statistics and experimental design.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary research environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
