Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a Sr. AWS Cloud Architect to design, lead, and govern enterprise cloud architecture supporting mission-critical federal programs. This role defines the target-state cloud architecture across AWS (primary) and Azure (secondary), ensuring solutions meet FedRAMP Moderate security and compliance requirements. The Cloud Architect serves as the technical subject matter expert (SME) for cloud design decisions, partnering closely with Cloud Computing, Application Development, Data Science, Infrastructure, and Cybersecurity Engineering teams and stakeholders.

This position is 100% remote.

Responsibilities
  • Systems Design: Design and document scalable, resilient, and secure cloud architectures (blueprints, diagrams, and strategies) on AWS, with secondary integration and support for Azure workloads
  • Compliant Architecture: Develop and implement reference architectures and design patterns aligned to FedRAMP Moderate control baselines (NIST 800-53 and NIST 800-171)
  • Migration & Modernization: Lead cloud migration and modernization strategy, including workload assessment, right-sizing, and cost optimization
  • Cost & Performance Optimization: Evaluate and recommend cloud-native and hybrid solutions that balance performance, cost, and compliance
  • ATO & System Security Plans: Lead technical gap analysis, partner with the cloud security team, execute automated control mapping, and support development and maintenance of System Security Plans (SSPs), architecture diagrams, and other ATO documentation
  • Automation (IaC): Develop and implement reusable Infrastructure as Code templates using Terraform or AWS CloudFormation to ensure continuous compliance and rapid deployment
  • DevSecOps Integration: Configure secure CI/CD pipelines, monitoring solutions, and containerization using tools such as Azure DevOps and AWS-native services (CodePipeline, CodeBuild, CodeDeploy) and other security tooling
  • Identity & Data Protection: Architect secure identity access boundaries, multi-factor authentication, single sign-on (SSO), network firewalls, and encryption schemas for data at rest and in transit
  • SRE & Disaster Recovery: Build site reliability engineering (SRE) practices and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Technical Mentorship: Provide technical leadership and mentorship to cloud engineers
Qualifications Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 12 years work experience with BS/BA in computer science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience), Min 10 years with MS/MA
  • 8 years of progressive experience in cloud infrastructure/architecture roles on AWS
  • Deep hands-on expertise designing AWS solutions, including VPC, IAM, EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, networking/Transit Gateway, KMS, Organizations, Control Tower, PrivateLink, Direct Connect, and Site-to-Site VPN
  • Strong grasp of networking, databases, storage, and container tooling on AWS
  • Experience with AWS cloud-native security services such as GuardDuty, Security Hub, and Inspector
  • Demonstrated experience architecting within FedRAMP Moderate (or FedRAMP High/DoD or similar compliance) environments, with familiarity in NIST 800-53 and NIST 800-171 control families
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar), CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps practices
  • Scripting experience (Python, Bash, PowerShell)
  • Experience with cloud-native and serverless architectures (Lambda, API Gateway, microservices) and containerization (EKS, ECS, Fargate)
  • Experience with hybrid/multi-cloud architecture, including Azure (VNets, Azure AD/Entra ID, SSO/MFA, Azure Policy, Site-to-Site VPN, ExpressRoute, Direct Connect)
  • Experience implementing SRE practices and disaster recovery plans
  • Experience supporting ATO and continuous monitoring processes with government customers
  • Certification: AWS Certified Solutions Architect 6 Associate or Professional

Target Salary Range$112,000 - $179,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual 6s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
