Full Job Description
Quick Summary

You'll handle auto claims across the full spectrum, from straightforward property damage to complex, multi-party bodily injury and litigation, with Florida experience a must. 8+ years adjusting, 3+ in litigation, and an active Adjuster's license required.
The Opportunity

Our Claims team is growing, and we're looking for a Senior Auto Casualty Adjuster to own litigated auto claims from filing through resolution. This role manages first-party PIP/Medpay litigation, third-party liability litigation, and UM/UIM litigation, with a focus on complex claims carrying potential high exposure across multiple states, including Florida.

You'll develop litigation strategy after reviewing initial complaints and amended actions, drive settlement negotiations, and shape how the team approaches pre-suit claims and litigation trends. In periods of lower litigated volume, you'll also flex into non-litigated bodily injury and other first- and third-party auto claims.
Your Responsibilities
  • Own a caseload of litigated auto liability and bodily injury claims from suit assignment through resolution
  • Develop litigation strategy by reviewing initial complaints, amended actions, and evolving case facts
  • Analyze claims exposure and build negotiation strategies for settlement
  • Review pleadings, discovery, and motions to keep suit-handling plans aligned with case developments
  • Collaborate with defense counsel, claims counsel, and claims management on strategic planning
  • Build and maintain relationships with approved defense firms and industry vendors
  • Prepare for and attend mediations, depositions, arbitrations, and trials
  • Apply multi-state statutory knowledge, including Florida's insurance code, PIP statute, and bad faith framework
  • Maintain active adjuster licensing and CE credits, and stay current on case law and statutory changes
  • Mentor junior adjusters through file reviews, coverage questions, and complex claim coaching
Success in This Role

In your first 6-12 months at Kin, success is less about checking boxes and more about the impact you create. You'll use your skills and judgment to take ownership of meaningful work, improve how we operate, and help move Kin's mission forward. Along the way, you'll deliver outcomes that make a real difference for both Kinfolk and the customers we serve.

By the end of your first year, you should feel confident in your role, trusted as an owner, and proud of the progress you've helped make.
  • Taken ownership of a caseload of litigated auto claims, including high-exposure Bodily Injury, PIP, and UM/UIM claims or suits, driving each file's strategy from acknowledgement through resolution with sound reserving and settlements, and operating in good faith.
  • Become a trusted partner to defense counsel, claims counsel, and claims management developing clear litigation and negotiation strategies that resolve complex files efficiently at mediation, arbitration, or trial and reduce unnecessary litigation spend.
  • Helped raise the bar across the team, mentoring junior adjusters through file reviews and complex claim coaching, and shaping how the unit approaches pre-suit claims and emerging litigation trends.
What You'll Bring
  • 8+ years of auto claims adjusting experience
  • 3+ years of auto injury claims and litigation experience
  • Extensive experience handling claims in Florida, including Florida's insurance code, PIP statute, and bad faith framework; additional state experience (e.g., Texas, Georgia, Colorado, Arizona) strongly preferred
  • Proven ability to mentor junior adjusters, including leading file reviews and coaching through complex claims
  • Advanced ability to memorialize case activity and communications, in writing and verbally, throughout litigation
  • Comfortable moving between simple, high-volume claims and complex litigated files without treating either as beneath the role
  • Experience working directly for an insurance carrier in a fully remote, digital-first environment (Slack, Snapsheet, Excel)
  • Strong decision-making and critical thinking in complex coverage and liability investigations
  • Active adjuster license in good standing, with willingness to obtain additional state licenses as needed

How we work

We don't just hire for skills. We hire for alignment. Kinfolk bring diverse perspectives, but we're united by a shared set of values that shape how we work and how we show up for each other and our customers.

Run through walls, together - Every one of us is responsible for creating the culture we want to work in. High performance. Low drama. Always respectful. We assume the best in each other and challenge ideas, not intentions. We show up, work hard, and play to each other's strengths - because that's how great teams win.

Raise the bar. Drop the ego - Attitudes are contagious. Every one of us is responsible for creating the culture we want to work in. High performance. Low drama. Always respectful. Like professional sports teams, we win by working in sync. We show up, work hard, and play to each other's strengths.

Act like an owner - We are owners, fully accountable for achieving Kin's mission. That requires positive, proactive, big-picture thinking well beyond our job descriptions. Ask questions, Take ownership. Do the right thing, even when it's hard. Because when Kin thrives, so do you. And so do our customers.

Operate lean. Deliver more - We build efficiency into everything we do. Each dollar we save gets reinvested to deliver more to our customers: better pricing, more products, and new innovations. We work smarter by relentlessly prioritizing and using technology, including AI, to multiply our impact. Lean is about focus, not deprivation. Lean isn't a limitation - it's our competitive advantage.

Keep asking 'What if?' - We value curiosity. To make insurance better for our customers, we experiment. We embrace insights. And we base decisions on data rather than assumptions. We see setbacks as opportunities for growth and are always learning and improving. Both individually and as a company.
