Responsibilities

The Investor Relations (“IR”) function sits within the investment team and is responsible for (i) creating, refining and managing content that effectively conveys our strategies’ investment approach, capabilities and portfolio activity; (ii) responding to existing and prospective investor requests for information; (iii) delivering marketing programming and thought leadership to raise awareness about Oaktree’s offerings and broad platform capabilities; (iv) assessing and supporting development of new product opportunities and (v) eventually, after acquiring and demonstrating expertise, serve as a surrogate for Oaktree portfolio managers in some client interactions.

This role will be aligned with Oaktree’s structured credit and asset-backed finance (“ABF”) strategies. Oaktree’s Structured Credit strategy invests in tranches of ABS, CLOs and, in partnership with the Real Estate Debt strategy, RMBS and CMBS.  Oaktree’s ABF strategy makes privately sourced and negotiated investments in pools of contractual assets, such as loans, leases, receivables, and mortgages. Within its ABF strategy, Oaktree

  • Purchases, or commits to purchase, assets, with or without leverage
  • Lends, or commits to lend, secured by assets, in a senior or mezzanine position
  • Insures, or provides capital relief against, assets
  • Provides essential capital to a business primarily engaged in the origination and servicing of assets

The candidate will be expected to develop subject matter expertise regarding our strategies’ market trends, investment approach, areas of focus and portfolios. Selected responsibilities of the role include: 

Support product marketing, fundraising, investor relations, client servicing, and product development.

  • Lead creation of strategy content (e.g., pitch books, custom presentations, commentaries) by:
    • Building and maintaining presentations including standard or custom materials
    • Crafting commentary, including in response to client inquiries, prospect requests-for-proposals/due diligence questionnaires (in partnership with the Diligence Services team), quarterly letters and other investor communications
    • Incorporating industry, asset class or competitor trends in new or existing materials
    • Collaborating with other IR professionals as well as other Oaktree departments to standardize, streamline or improve content
    • Creatively utilize artificial intelligence tools to improve both efficiency and quality
    • Learning compliance and related industry advertising rules to assist in the creation of compliant content
  • Support fundraising initiatives by:
    • Accompanying portfolio managers when meeting with prospective clients, virtually and in-person
    • Partnering with our Global Client Group (“GCG”) and investment teams on strategic planning, inclusive of research on LPs
    • Building relationships with GCG and driving follow-up where relevant and appropriate
    • Researching and preparing analysis regarding competitive landscape or precedent case studies
    • Gathering intel regarding the market reaction to our products and refining messaging/strategy content accordingly to improve traction
    • Supporting and/or conducting GCG education about the strategies, throughout a fundraising campaign
  • Participate in product-related investor calls and meetings, including portfolio reviews, fund webcasts, etc.
  • Work with the Marketing & Client Communications team to deliver client events, conferences, or other programs
  • Contribute to product development initiatives by:
    • Researching, proposing and implementing new product ideas, bespoke client solutions or new investor channels for product distribution
    • Funneling market intelligence back to Oaktree’s investment teams and senior leadership (i.e., competitor activity, evolution and changes in investor demand, client sensitivities, industry responses to policy, etc.)

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of relevant experience in investment banking, structuring, investing, financial writing or product/investment specialist role, with experience in structured products or asset finance preferred.
  • Proven ability to (1) quickly develop expertise and fluency in complex financial topics, (2) interact directly with sophisticated stakeholders in a financial services setting, and (3) demonstrate a high service-orientation;
  • Fluency with MS Office suite for creating client-facing and internal deliverables to include PowerPoint, Excel and Teams; and
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously, meeting deadlines and working collaboratively as part of a team.

Education

Bachelor’s degree with a record of academic excellence. MBA, CFA or other recognized advanced credentials a plus

Base Salary Range

$150,000 - $225,000

In addition to a competitive base salary, you will be eligible to receive discretionary bonus incentives, a and a flexible work arrangement.  The base salary offered will be commensurate with experience and/or qualifications, industry knowledge and expertise, as well as prior training and education.
