Position Summary

We are seeking a motivated Senior Construction Architect to join our team supporting major healthcare interior improvements at a VA Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. This role will support recovery and renovation efforts while serving as a Design and Construction Manager in collaboration with the Program Manager and VA client staff.

The selected candidate will act as an Owner's Representative throughout the design, construction, and project closeout phases, supporting complex healthcare construction and renovation projects within an active medical facility environment.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Construction Architect will support project oversight activities from design through construction and closeout while ensuring compliance with healthcare and federal construction standards.

Responsibilities include:

  • Act as an Owner's Representative supporting healthcare construction and renovation projects
  • Analyze and monitor project financial data, budget performance, and cost trends
  • Review construction schedules and support progress and performance evaluations
  • Participate in project meetings and assist with issue identification and resolution
  • Review contractor documentation, testing reports, inspections, and quality assurance records for compliance
  • Support claims administration, contract modifications, and change management processes
  • Conduct inspections and assessments of facilities to identify deficiencies, code concerns, and physical condition issues
  • Determine compliance of workmanship, materials, equipment, and installed systems with contract requirements and industry standards
  • Prepare cost estimates and quantity take-offs related to contract modifications and project changes
  • Prepare analytical reports, correspondence, and program status documentation
  • Maintain project tracking tools and reporting systems supporting program oversight
  • Coordinate with VA personnel, contractors, consultants, and facility engineering representatives throughout project execution


Technical Knowledge & Qualifications

Candidates should possess strong working knowledge of:

  • Uniform Building Code (UBC)
  • Life Safety Code (NFPA 101)
  • Uniform Federal Accessibility Standards (UFAS)
  • Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
  • OSHA and ASTM standards
  • Commercial healthcare and hospital construction practices
  • Building, safety, and environmental codes
  • Construction contract documents, technical specifications, and drawings
  • Environmental, civil, architectural, and structural disciplines related to construction projects


Education & Experience

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture or related field from an accredited institution required
  • Licensed Architect RA or AIA affiliation preferred
  • Equivalent combinations of education and relevant experience may be considered

Experience

  • Minimum of six (6) years of experience as a Design Architect required
  • Ten (10) years of relevant experience with Medical facility design and healthcare construction experience strongly preferred
  • Experience supporting federal, or regulated institutional projects highly desirable
  • Experience with construction administration, inspections, compliance reviews, and project coordination required


Additional Requirements

  • Strong understanding of construction administration, quality assurance, scheduling, and cost management
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment in administrative, compliance, and financial matters
  • Strong written, verbal, and organizational communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting healthcare and federal construction programs
  • Experience working in occupied healthcare environments
  • CCM or PMP certifications preferred
  • Strong leadership and team collaboration abilities


Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Full-time onsite work within an active construction and healthcare environment
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk construction sites, and use standard office equipment
