OverviewGDC IT Solutions is currently seeking a SQL Server Database Administrator to support the Pennsylvania State Police in a primarily remote capacity. This position focuses on SQL Server and Azure database administration, production database operations, data migration, performance optimization, and support for enterprise data warehouse and Power BI environments.
As a
SQL Server Database Administrator you will be responsible for providing advanced technical support across database administration, development, and operations activities. This role will support critical production SQL Server environments while designing, deploying, securing, monitoring, optimizing, and migrating database solutions across on-premises and Azure environments. The position will also support data migration, database design, data warehouses, data marts, and Power BI environments while collaborating with developers, business stakeholders, vendors, and other technical teams.
Responsibilities- Provide advanced SQL Server database administration and operational support for critical production systems.
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize SQL Server and Azure SQL database performance, availability, health, and overall service quality.
- Deploy, configure, secure, back up, maintain, and support Azure SQL database solutions and integrate Azure SQL resources with other Azure services.
- Support the migration and upgrade of SQL Server databases from legacy servers and SQL Server versions to new environments, including migrations from on-premises SQL Server to Azure SQL.
- Perform database health checks and analyze performance to identify issues and provide recommendations for database optimization.
- Design and implement data migration solutions to extract, cleanse, transform, and load data between sources while supporting data validation activities.
- Design, develop, and maintain logical and physical database models based on business and technical requirements.
- Define, develop, and create databases by assessing requirements and recommending appropriate database architectures and configurations.
- Develop and maintain database structures, including tables, relationships, and normalization, to support data integrity, efficiency, and reduced redundancy.
- Deploy and maintain database schema changes across test and production environments.
- Provide technical support for the PSP Data Warehouse, Data Marts, and Power BI environments in collaboration with the Lead Power BI Administrator.
- Review and validate data models and data dictionaries to ensure compliance with organizational database standards.
- Collaborate with developers, business stakeholders, vendors, and service providers to gather requirements, provide database consulting, and resolve technical support issues.
- Coordinate database backup and restore requests with the backup administration team.
- Support application development lifecycle activities, including planning, design, development, implementation, quality assurance, data cleanup, and data administration.
- Install and configure SQL Server software and service packs as required.
- Assist with software releases and coordinate related database activities.
- Identify and track technical issues, risks, and action items and resolve assigned issues in a timely manner.
- Engage in ongoing process improvement and follow established database standards and procedures.
- Manage assigned work activities, provide status updates, estimate and schedule work, and complete tasks with limited direct supervision.
- Work effectively with technical teams and provide high-quality, professional customer service.
Minimum Qualifications- Seven (7) years of experience in SQL Server Database Administration.
- Four (4) years of experience performing database administration on production servers.
- Three (3) years of experience in data analytics.
- One (1) year of experience in Azure Database Administration.
- One (1) year of experience working with data warehouses.
- Demonstrated experience supporting critical production database environments, including database security, availability, monitoring, performance management, backup, and recovery.
- Demonstrated experience with database design, development, data migration, data validation, and database administration.
- Strong knowledge of database management and data analysis techniques.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to provide high-quality and professional customer service.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and execute responsibilities with limited direct supervision.
- Experience with Microsoft SQL Server High Availability and Always On.
- Experience administering Power BI environments.
- Experience with business systems analysis and design.
- Experience supporting SQL Server Data Warehouses, Data Marts, and enterprise analytics environments.
- Experience integrating Azure SQL databases with other Azure services.
- Experience with Azure cloud database security and administration.
