Job DescriptionThe Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation Medicine at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time TH Clinical Technical Services Speech Pathologist 2. The successful candidate will:
- Perform speech and swallow evaluations.
- Perform cognition/communication skills evaluations.
- Perform modified barium swallow (MBS) studies for patient of all ages.
- Determine appropriate diet recommendations.
- Coordinate with dietary, nursing, and medical staff in managing diet textures, consistencies and restrictions.
- Educate residents, nursing, patients and families regarding alternative nutrition methods.
- Document initial assessments, follow-up treatments, results of MBS, etc. according to departmental and institutional policies and standards.
- Mentor SLP students and affiliates.
- Be a role model for other members of the team, while modeling the WE CARE values of the institution.
QualificationsRequired Qualifications- Masters Degree in Speech Language Pathology from an institution accredited by New York State.
- 3+ years of related experience in an acute hospital setting.
- Proficiency in performing Modified Barium Swallowing (MBS) studies.
- Excellent bedside manners, effective and efficient communication skill, and strong time management skills.
