Specialist, Transportation.The
Specialist, Transportation works directly under the supervision of the Transportation Manager providing administrative, logistical and operational support.
Qualifications- High school diploma required, Associate's degree preferred
- Experience and familiarity with using information systems to track and update data
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point), Adobe Acrobat and Google Suite
- Strong organizational skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail
- Strong communication and collaboration skills demonstrating ability to work effectively across multiple district functions and hierarchical lines
- A valid driver's license as well as current insurance and vehicle with valid registration
Preferred Requirements- Bilingual-Spanish preferred
- Bachelor's degree preferred from accredited college or university and/or 5 years of full-time work experience
- Previous school transportation experience
Core ResponsibilitiesMajor responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:
Office Operations:- Run front office responsibilities of the transportation team (phones, mail, supplies, etc.)
- Draft and submit board items
- Utilize electronic filing and record keeping systems to handle and process documents
- Answer phones and emails to ensure appropriate communication within the division
- Coordinate, prepare and schedule interviews for open positions in department
Transportation:- Review student transportation requests to determine eligibility
- Connect with submitting schools to verify student eligibility and compliance
- Prepare, build, and adjust bus routes utilizing the BusBoss routing software or similar
- Create bus routes that focus on efficiency and student safety
- Process requests for transportation in Genesis and BusBoss or similar software
- Initiate/Receive communication from schools and vendors around emergency transportation situations
- Log and report student transportation incidents/accidents
- Provide outstanding customer service experiences to families/schools around transportation needs
- Provide outstanding customer service to vendors and schools by promptly addressing all questions and concerns pertaining to routes
- Prepare communication for transportation stakeholders including students, families, schools, and vendors
- Enter requisitions for transportation bids and quotes as well as follow-up on outstanding POs
- Receive and process invoices and Aide-in-Lieu requests for timely payment
The
Specialist, Transportation may also take on other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Senior Director of Transportation or designee.

Terms of EmploymentTwelve-month position. Salary, benefits, and conditions of employment shall be in accordance with Board policy and applicable agreements.
EvaluationPerformance shall be evaluated annually in accordance with Board policy, administrative regulations, and district leadership procedures.

Minimum Starting Salary: $75,000.00
Maximum Starting Salary: $100,000.00
Residency RequirementUnder New Jersey's "New Jersey First Act" (N.J.S.A. 52:14-7), all employees of New Jersey public school districts must maintain bona fide New Jersey residency as a condition of employment. Candidates must already reside in New Jersey or establish residency within the required timeframe after hire. Current employees who were hired on or before September 1, 2011 are exempt from this requirement and may continue to reside outside the state. In limited circumstances, applicants may request a residency waiver through the state's Employee Residency Review Committee if they can demonstrate critical need or hardship; approval is not guaranteed.
