Job Description:Specialist Scientific & Regulatory Affairs (SRA)The Specialist SRA performs a critical role in regulatory processes through the assessment of raw material compliance and governance of high-risk regulatory data.
This position partners externally with Mars' suppliers and internally with Product Development, Commercial, Legal, SQA, Activity Management and Systems teams to provide regulatory expertise to enable innovation and drive business performance.
This role is expected to act as the technical lead for SRA's mission to modernize how we ensure compliance and enable growth.
What are we looking for?
- A minimum of a bachelor's degree in nutrition, biochemistry, food science, food safety, food process engineering or related field. Advanced degree preferred.
- Additional training course work in regulatory science is preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in regulatory compliance at a food, beverage, or consumer products company is required with significant expertise in ingredient compliance, finished product compliance, claims, labelling
- Technical expertise in nutrition, ingredient composition and interpreting food regulation
- Significant systems and data management experience- data analytics software, product lifecycle management tools and specification management systems
- Expertise with confectionery, snack, chewing gum products, relative ingredients and manufacturing processes
What would your key responsibilities be?- Oversees SRA raw material review and data management process, including maintenance of high-risk regulatory data in business systems, to ensure compliance across regional portfolio of products- requires deep technical expertise in nutrition, ingredient composition, genetic modification, claims & certification suitability, food additive compliance, finished product labelling and allergen risk management
- Makes critical decisions related to data codification of high-risk attributes for raw materials and provides final sign-off for specifications
- Supports the preparation and submission of technical documents, dossiers and petitions to regulatory bodies or customers upon inquiry or to gain approval of new ingredients
- Develops and executes SRA impact assessment and change management when changes to existing raw materials are communicated by suppliers or internal business partners
- Develops framework for robust onboarding program & learning pathways for training and development of new or junior members of the team
- Recommends annual targets, KPI's, business objectives, driven by team metrics and data analysis
- Interprets proposed regulations or global standards and conducts risk and opportunity assessments for business recommendation to senior leaders
- Provides critical support and leadership to Mars Quality Management System for raw material compliance process; leads team preparation, maintenance, execution, continuous improvement

The base pay range for this position at commencement of employment is between the range listed below, however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position will include variable pay, medical and dental benefits, participation in 401k plan, and paid time off benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an applicant receives an offer of employment.
