Job OverviewThe Professional Learning and School Support Specialist is responsible for supporting and implementing professional learning and school support aligned to student needs and the continuous school improvement process. It includes collaboration with various offices to provide direct support to elementary schools. The position requires communication and collaboration with school leadership (both central and school-based). This position also works alongside content area supervisors and specialists to build capacity in teachers to support student learning needs in the system.
Roles and Responsibilities The following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed. This is not a comprehensive listing of all responsibilities or tasks; work may differ and other work may be assigned when deemed appropriate.
- Design and deliver professional learning for school and division staff in efforts related to the continuous school improvement process and strategic goals
- Creates new resources and supporting materials to enhance adult learning
- Provides guidance and leadership around key instructional practices in LCPS with a focus on design, engagement, assessment and student-centered practices
- Builds capacity in others to align work around the continuous improvement process, individualized for each school
- Collaborates with staff across departments to help analyze student data, solve problems, make instructional decisions, and provide professional learning
- Expands the capacity of LCPS as it relates to its strategic goals by serving as a resource for others and collaboratively supporting efforts to provide professional learning to school staff
- Supports and equips division and school leadership with the appropriate tools, resources, and professional learning and coaching
- Support division initiatives related to instructional practices and needs
Qualifications Below are the minimum qualifications for this job. Equivalent combinations of education and experience are also acceptable.
Education Master's Degree
Experience Demonstrated successful teaching experience for at least three (3) years
Licenses and Certifications Holds or is eligible for a Virginia Postgraduate Professional License
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Ability to communicate effectively
- Leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with administrators and teachers
- Strong communication, writing, and presentation skills
- Knowledge of how to design and deliver high-quality professional learning
