Summary:

The incumbent plays an essential role in the company's System Reliability Department. Provides technical expertise to Asset Operating Teams to keep plants, pipeline and compressor station equipment, liquid pump stations and pipelines safe, available, and efficient. Works with System Reliability team members to ensure operations and maintenance activities are consistent across Area boundaries.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Works to insure and maintain a safe working environment for self and others by actively participating in safety programs.
  • Trouble shooting and maintaining compressor package, plant, liquid pipeline systems, and other control systems.
  • Develops or modifies control logic to meet changes in equipment or equipment operating conditions.
  • Provide training as needed for local I&E's and operations/maintenance personnel.
  • Develop, maintain, and update Standard Operating Procedures as needed.
  • Assists in tracking compliance with equipment safety device checklists and verification of proper device settings.
  • Advises the Management Team of any safety-related matters to produce an accident-free environment.
  • Review equipment Start/Stop plans to ensure compliance with company's SOP's.
  • Participates in facility audit process as company's expert on adherence to local, state and federal construction techniques.
  • Develops action plans to bring facilities into compliance with applicable regulations and codes.
  • Researches and identifies training resources needed to meet instrumentation and controls training requirements specified in company policies and procedures. Personally, conducts training when needed.
  • Will assume the role of Controls SME: Attends PSM and other meetings/audits as such.
  • Collaborates with other controls specialists to share knowledge and create consistency across the Central Texas Region, and beyond.
  • Researches and performs cost/benefit analysis on new equipment or processes for potential use at any facility.
  • Manages controls upgrade/replacement projects as required.
  • Participates in incident investigations on major equipment failures and safety incidents as required.


Requirements:
Education and/or Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. The requirements for this position are listed below:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two year technical degree in electronic circuits and PLC programming or higher preferred
  • Thorough knowledge with 6+ years' experience as an I&E for Cryo-plants, Amine treating, compressor stations, liquids handling, and their related systems and equipment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be proficient in MS Word and Excel applications.
  • Intimately familiar with failsafe Emergency Shutdown Systems and equipment protection fundamentals.
  • Must be organized and methodical in diagnosing equipment and controls related problems.
  • Strong interpersonal skills are required to interact with all levels of management and non-management personnel. As a Company representative, the incumbent also interfaces with outside regulatory agencies, customers, contractors, and industry counterparts.
  • Must be able to work in physically and mentally challenging environments.
  • Must be able to manage constantly changing priorities.
  • The Controls Specialist is a vital part of the Reliability team that insures ETC will provide safe and reliable equipment processes.


Working Conditions:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs. occasionally
  • Driving, walking, and standing frequently
  • Exposure to adverse weather, cramped conditions and some heavy lifting
  • Visits to industrial/manufacturing settings, which may include exposure to various materials and chemicals, as well as extreme temperature conditions and loud machinery, and require appropriate personal protective equipment
  • Must be able to travel as needed. Predicted 50% - 75% travel.
