Summary

This position is located in the Small Business Administration, Office of the Chief Operating Officer in Washington, DC. The incumbent serves as the Space Management Specialist who is responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing all phases of the facilities program dealing with space, property, safety, motor vehicles including the development of policies, and programs designed to increase the effectiveness of SBA's operations.

As a/an Space Management Specialist at theGS- 0301-13, some of your typical work assignments may include:

  • Planning, developing, and managing office space renovation, relocation, and reconfiguration projects for multiple facilities or organizational components.
  • Conducting space utilization analyses, feasibility studies, and cost-benefit analyses to develop recommendations that improve operational efficiency and optimize workspace.
  • Interpreting and applying federal regulations, policies, and industry standards related to space management, real property, facilities management, and workplace design.
  • Managing multiple complex projects simultaneously, including developing schedules, monitoring budgets, coordinating contractors, and ensuring projects are completed on time and within scope.
  • Providing technical guidance and recommenations to management on space allocation, workplace planning, furniture systems, and facilities-related initiatives.

Qualifications

GS-13: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service, obtained in either the private or public sector:

  1. Managing large office buildings or large office complexes including improving customer and client agency satisfaction with building services; and
  2. Applying the principles and techniques of building construction to plan, direct, organize and coordinate the activities of an agency contractor and other personnel, and developing policies and programs designed to increase their effectiveness; and
  3. Developing space utilization plans for a government leased or owned facility; conducting space utilization studies for a government leased or owned facility; and
  4. Collaborating with cross-functional teams on space management projects; overseeing space renovations in a government leased or owned facility; and
  5. Overseeing the space and facility management database to track space and facility changes; keeping architectural backgrounds up to date.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Generally, time in Non-Pay status as a federal employee is not creditable towards the specialized experience requirement listed above.

All qualification requirements must be met by 11:59 pm (Eastern Time) on 08/31/2026.
