Space Electronics Test Systems Design Engineer (Experienced/Lead)

Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) seeks Space Electronics Test Systems Design Engineers to join our Special Test Equipment (STE) for the Space Electronics Team located in El Segundo, CA.

This team works on space-grade electronics, from power and digital subsystems to RF/mixed signal systems and is responsible for the cradle-to-grave design, build, validation, and support to ensures the flight products and systems perform as intended in the extreme operating environments.

You will contribute to diverse projects from cutting-edge satellite communication systems to advanced exploration ventures. Your expertise will have a direct impact on crucial missions, such as the development of the Wideband Global SATCOM (WGS) system, a high-capacity satellite communications backbone for the U.S. Department of Defense, as well as the Mobile User Objective System (MUOS), the U.S. Navy's next-generation narrowband tactical SATCOM constellation using a cellular-style waveform to provide secure, global mobile voice and data, and Boeing Evolved Strategic SATCOM (ESS), which provides end-to-end engineering, integration, and sustainment services for satellite platforms, payloads, and ground systems across civil and defense space programs.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Participate in the full lifecycle development of Special Test Equipment (STE) for power, digital, RF, and mixed-signal systems used in space applications: contribute to architecture, detailed circuit design, prototyping, integration, verification, and delivery.
  • Be hands-on: perform and review detailed circuit designs (power supplies, MCUs, FPGAs, memory/logic, RF front ends, filters, amplifiers, mixers) and implement prototypes and test harnesses.
  • Develop models and analyses to predict and validate system performance using SPICE, MATLAB/Simulink, ADS, or equivalent tools.
  • Design, develop, and validate automated test software and data acquisition systems using LabVIEW, Test Stand, Python, C#, or equivalent.
  • Support design reviews, design controls, configuration management, and execution of verification/qualification test plans to meet space qualification requirements; implement reviewer feedback and corrective actions as directed.
  • Troubleshoot anomalies during integration, environmental testing, and production; perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions in coordination with program leads.
  • Recommend procurement needs and suggest test equipment purchases to meet technical objectives; assist with equipment selection and evaluation.
  • Contribute technical input to proposals and capture activities, including scope definition, cost and schedule estimates, and risk analyses.
  • Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and program leads; communicate technical status and risks to stakeholders when requested.


This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Top Secret/SCI clearance Post Start is required.
  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
  • 5 or more years of engineering work experience
  • 3 or more years of experience in digital, power or RF Test Systems


Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • Lead, Level 4: 10+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience with PCB design, schematic capture, layout, and/or routing
  • Experience with hands on troubleshooting power, digital or RF systems.
  • Hands-on experience using test equipment such as digital multimeters, power analyzers, logic analyzers, and digital oscilloscopes
  • Software coding experience including; however, not limited to: LabView, Test Stand, C/C#, Python, FPGA Verilog/VHDL, and/or MATLAB Signal
  • Knowledge of power systems and digital communication protocols.
  • Understanding of various power systems and digital communication protocols used in space applications
  • Experience in power and thermal analysis.
  • The ability to perform power and thermal analysis on circuits and systems, predicting their behavior under various conditions and ensuring they meet the necessary requirements
  • Availability to travel up to 10% of the time, domestically depending on business needs

Experienced, Level 3: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), computer science, engineering data science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience or non-US equivalent qualifications. In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Lead, Level 4: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), computer science, engineering data science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience or non-US equivalent qualifications. In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
