Full Job Description
Responsibilities

  • Develop sourcing strategy for high-impact mechanical and enclosure technologies used across Surface and Xbox-bringing market insight, supplier intelligence, cost modeling, and business judgment together to build a competitive supply base.
  • Own strategic supplier relationships for critical mechanical categories, including executive engagement, commercial strategy, negotiations, agreements, and long-term partnership development.
  • Unlock supplier innovation by developing supplier capabilities, creating roadmap visibility, and connecting emerging technologies to Microsoft hardware needs.
  • Build resilient supply chains that protect continuity of supply, improve geographic and supplier flexibility, and help Microsoft navigate product ramps, market shifts, and supply disruptions.
  • Secure technology and cost advantage by ensuring the right components, capacity, supplier readiness, and commercial structure are in place when Microsoft needs them.
  • Drive confident cost decisions by developing sharp cost projections, should-cost models, and fact-based negotiation positions that can stand up to scrutiny and competitive alternatives.
  • Find and capture cost opportunities by identifying component cost drivers, challenging assumptions, and partnering with suppliers and engineering to optimize cost without compromising quality or performance.
  • Deliver measurable business results across total cost, supply continuity, quality, compliance, and on-time execution-helping Microsoft bring great hardware products to market with confidence.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 1+ year(s) experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles.
    • OR Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 2+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles.
    • OR equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience developing sourcing strategies for mechanical components, enclosures, assemblies, or related hardware technologies in a high-volume product environment.
  • Master's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 3+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles
    • OR Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 5+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Solid technical curiosity and ability to engage deeply with engineering, design, manufacturing, and supplier teams to understand product architecture, tradeoffs, and manufacturability.
  • Demonstrated capability in supplier selection, commercial negotiations, cost modeling, capacity planning, and long-term supplier relationship management.
  • Ability to use data, market intelligence, and structured problem solving to make clear recommendations in ambiguous or fast-moving situations.
  • Solid communication and influencing skills, with the confidence to align cross-functional partners and present tradeoffs, risks, and recommendations to leadership.
  • Experience driving cost, quality, continuity of supply, or supply-base resiliency improvements through collaboration with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Growth mindset, ownership mentality, and a desire to learn across technical, commercial, and operational domains.

Sourcing Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $102,100 - $202,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $133,800 - $219,200 per year.
