Full Job Description
The Opportunity:
The Maple Leaf Foods (MLF) Procurement team is responsible for the Strategic Sourcing of goods and services across the organization. The team is focused on generating value for the business, lowering organizational risk and providing excellent stakeholder support.

An opportunity exists to join the Procurement team as a Sourcing Buyer, this position is responsible for working collaboratively with Procurement team members and business stakeholders to strategically source categories to improve overall value to MLF.The successful candidate can expect to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and be exposed to Six Sigma methodologies delivered through ARIBA and SAP platforms.The incumbent will immediately engage in challenging Strategic Sourcing initiatives.

The Sourcing Buyer will work closely with Procurement operations, the leadership team, and key stakeholders on competitive cost sourcing initiatives of assigned spend categories. This role requires strong analytical skills and the ability to generate insights which will minimize the total cost of ownership in the assigned categories.

Compensation:$71,000 - $103,000 CAD base pay annually plus annual short-term incentive

The above compensation reflects the target compensation for the position at the time of posting. The base salary offered may vary based on a variety of factors including skills, experience, education, training, job- related knowledge, and other organizational requirements. For part-time roles, salaries are adjusted according to scheduled hours.In addition to base salary, this role is eligible to participate in Maple Leaf's annual short-term incentive plan.
Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to create and implement strategic sourcing strategies
  • Provide leadership and expertise in a variety of areas including category strategy support and development, RFX development and oversight, and vendor negotiations
  • Develop and execute source plans for key spend categories
  • Run transparent RFX events
  • Participate in contract negotiations with key vendors
  • Lead cross-functional project teams to execute sourcing initiatives
  • Manage constructive supplier relationships for assigned categories
  • Meet annual cost reduction targets in assigned categories
  • Facilitate bids, analysis and negotiations for goods and services
  • Lead accurate and timely processing of all purchase orders according to MLF standard process
  • Manage the business relationship with key suppliers through supporting activities including ordering, communication of demand/volume/ delivery time changes, issue resolution, sharing end-user feedback, follow up on backorders, etc.
  • Develop a strong understanding and knowledge of suppliers and capabilities
  • Assist with contract development and execution
  • Manage supplier relationships to ensure continuity of good and services that meet the quality, service and price performance standards of the company
  • Identify, prioritize and impact key business opportunities
  • Work with stakeholders and leadership teams to implement and enforce polices that increase spend visibility and compliance
  • Work closely with Finance teams to expedite receiving and AP processes

What You'll Bring:
  • Post secondary education, preferably in Business or Engineering
  • 2-3 years of experience in Strategic Sourcing / Procurement or related discipline
  • Superior analytical skills - able to draw insights and form recommendations
  • High level of energy and enthusiasm with ability to project influential leadership
  • Team player with strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • Well organized; able to balance multiple competing priorities
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Experience working in an SAP environment is an asset
