Full Job Description
An overview of this role

As the Manager of Public Sector Solutions Architects, you will lead a team of Solutions Architects serving public sector customers. This role sits at the intersection of technical strategy, customer outcomes, and team leadership. You will support high-impact public sector opportunities, guide technical pre-sales work from planning through monitoring, and help your team connect GitLab's DevSecOps platform to each customer's business and mission needs. In your first year, you will be expected to strengthen team execution, improve how the team works across functions, and coach Solutions Architects to deliver consistent technical leadership across strategic engagements.

You will report through the sales organization and work closely with regional sales managers, as well as peers in Engineering, Product Management, and Marketing. This is a hands-on leadership opportunity where you will both grow a high-performing team and lead by example in customer-facing solution architecture work.

Due to customer requirements, you must be a United States Citizen (defined as any individual who is a citizen of the United States by law, birth, or naturalization) to fill this position.
What you'll do
  • Lead multiple high-impact initiatives that support strategic public sector sales opportunities.
  • Manage a team of Solutions Architects through hiring, coaching, feedback, and retention.
  • Guide technical evaluations and validation efforts to help customers understand how GitLab meets their business and technical requirements.
  • Collaborate with regional sales managers on account strategy and with cross-functional leaders on complex opportunities.
  • Improve team practices and execution strategies in partnership with Solutions Architect leadership and other departments.
  • Communicate GitLab's vision, strategy, and values in a way that helps your team apply them in day-to-day work.
  • Track team execution through key performance indicators and provide clear updates to peers and leadership.
  • Model strong customer engagement by acting as a Solutions Architect on selected opportunities to support customer success.
What you'll bring
  • Experience: 3-5 years experience in Public Sector
  • Leadership: 2+ years of experience leading high-performing teams, ideally in a global or remote environment.
  • Experience leading teams with accountability for execution, coaching, and performance.
  • Experience in technical pre-sales or a related information technology role that supports customer-facing solution design.
  • Knowledge of modern software development or operations practices across the software delivery lifecycle.
  • Familiarity with cloud computing technologies and the practices that support secure, scalable adoption.
  • Ability to mentor others and give and receive constructive feedback in a clear, respectful way.
  • Experience working with other managers and cross-functional partners to develop and carry out shared strategies.
  • Experience supporting public sector customers and understanding the needs of regulated or mission-driven environments.
  • Openness to bringing transferable leadership and technical experience from adjacent fields where customer outcomes, collaboration, and technical credibility are important.
