Full Job Description

The Solutions Architect serves as our strategic lead for driving the design, modernization, and optimization of enterprise data platforms with a focus on cloud-enabled environments. The Solutions Architect directs all database related capabilities while ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture and cloud adoption strategies. Working cross-functionally with IT infrastructure, development and IT security teams, the Solutions Architect will help establish standards, influence technology roadmaps and ensure database environments are optimized for scalability and are cost-effective.

Essential Functions

  • Performance & Reliability: Execute performance tuning (e.g. indexing strategies, Extended Events, DMVs, plan cache analysis, statistics maintenance, partitioning). Capacity planning, baselining, and proactive monitoring using native tools and third0third-party suite (e.g., Quest Foglight, Redgate, Idera).

  • Lifecycle & Governance: Plan and execute patching, upgrades, migrations and decommissionings (including 2014 -> 2019/2022/Azure). Standardize configurations, policies, and documentation (SOPs, runbooks, architecture diagrams).

  • Security & Compliance: Assist the database administration team in defining and implementing enterprise database security architecture across on-premises and Azure environments. Help establish and review controls, policies and audit frameworks to support regulatory compliance (e.g., SOC 2, GDPR, HIPAA, PCI DSS).

  • Cloud Transformation & Modernization: Lead the strategic transformation of on-premises SQL Server environments to Microsoft Azure, including assessment, planning, and execution of migration initiatives.

  • Data Integration & DevOps: Support schema management/versioning (state or migration-based), release automation, and gated deployments. Partner with data engineering on SSIS/ADF, CDC, and ETL performance patterns. Coach developers on T-SQL best practices, indexing, and query design.

  • Design & Build:

Architect highly available SQL Server solutions (Always On Availability Groups, FCI, Log Shipping) across on-premises and cloud infrastructure. Implement Azure data services: Azure SQL DB, MI, SQL on IaaS, and integrate with Azure Key Vault. Provision infrastructure-as-code (Terraform/ARM/Bicep) and automate with Azure DevOps and Git.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to analyze problems and provide root cause analysis and recommend preventive and corrective actions.

  • Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to accurately convey messages with both technical and non-technical users.

  • Significant knowledge of modern cloud data platforms and best practices

  • Ability to anticipate and identify problems as well as provide troubleshooting resolution.

  • Ability to prioritize, work effectively, independently, and with others in a collaborative, deadline-sensitive environment.

  • Knowledge of the mortgage industry is helpful but not required.

  • Commitment and ability to cultivate a diverse and inclusive work environment.

Education

  • BS in computer science or related field preferred; the equivalent amount of relevant experience will be considered in lieu

Experience

  • 8+ years of experience in Data platform Architecture and Design.

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with Azure data platform.

  • 5+ years working with SQL Server, Replication, Transact-SQL.

  • 5+ years working with XML, SQL Trace, and Performance monitoring.

  • 2+ years of data Integration, Business Intelligence, Data Pipelines, Architecture and Design.

  • Prior experience with provisioning infrastructure-as-code (Terraform/ARM/Bicep) and automate with Azure DevOps and Git

  • Compensation: $121,440 to $151,800 annualized with a 15% AIP opportunity

Working Conditions

This is a remote position. Employees are expected to maintain a dedicated and professional workspace that supports productivity and confidentiality. This requires reliable internet access and the ability to be on camera to participate in virtual meetings and communications during standard business hours. Work is primarily performed in a home office environment. Flexible work hours may be available, though employees must be able to collaborate effectively across time zones and attend scheduled meetings during core business hours. May require extended periods of computer use and sitting. Occasional travel or in-person meetings may be required based on business needs. Employees must adhere to company policies regarding data security, time tracking, and virtual collaboration.

Physical Demands and Activities

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to communicate. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and constantly operate a computer and other office equipment using hands and fingers for fine manipulation, including keyboarding and mouse use. The employee must occasionally lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, such as files and small parcels and/or move boxes weighing up to 15 lbs. Prolonged periods of sitting or standing may be required depending on the nature of the work. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to observe objects at close range in presence of glare or bright lighting (e.g. computer screen).
