McKesson is seeking a talented and experienced Software Support Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for both software development and operational support for McKesson's ophthalmology software products. The successful candidate will possess a strong background in Python, SQL, JavaScript, PHP and cloud technologies. The ideal candidate will have 4+ years of software development, quality assurance and providing escalation support for software products.

Key Responsibilities:

Customer Support & Issue Resolution
  • Manage and resolve support tickets, including escalations, troubleshooting, and follow-up to ensure a positive customer experience.
  • Investigate order issues, identify duplicate or failed orders, and use SQL/Tableau to analyze data and generate reports.
  • Partner with customers, suppliers, and internal teams to resolve issues and improve support processes.
  • Document support procedures and promote self-service capabilities to reduce future support needs.


User Administration & Security
  • Support user onboarding, account management, access requests, and customer verification.
  • Configure practice, location, and supplier account setups while following cybersecurity best practices.
  • Maintain account security, including password resets and account deactivation.


Testing & Quality Assurance
  • Validate system configurations and conduct testing prior to onboarding and production releases.
  • Develop and execute automated and manual test plans, including Python/Selenium-based testing.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and escalate system, data, and cross-product issues to ensure platform quality and reliability.
  • Support ongoing system maintenance, data monitoring, and new product implementations.


Critical Skills
  • 4+ years of professional software development experience
  • Prior experience providing L2 or higher support for applications, preferably in healthcare.
  • 2+ years experience supporting web applications
  • Must be able to use the Microsoft Office suite of applications proficiently and comfortably, with above average expertise in MS Excel to manipulate and analyze datasets.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, while communicating progress in an organized fashion.
  • Experience with DevOps practices and tools, such as integration, functional and automated testing.


Additional Skills
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and AI tools is a plus.
  • Healthcare industry experience, including EMR or Practice Management systems, preferred.
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities, solve technical problems, and exercise sound judgment in ambiguous situations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and effective across written, verbal, and presentation-based communication.
  • Experience with SQL (PostgreSQL preferred), Python, and JavaScript; PHP is a plus.
  • Ability to extract and analyze data, work collaboratively in a development environment, and deliver organized, high-quality results.


Minimum Requirement

Degree or equivalent and typically requires 4+ years of relevant experience.

Education

Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Management or other technical discipline or equivalent experience

Travel and location
  • The ideal candidate is based in Chicago, IL or surrounding areas.
  • Able to travel 10-15% to other locations for team meetings
