Job Description

The Role:

GM’s Vehicle Mechatronics Embedded Controls (VMEC) organization is seeking a Senior Software Integration Manager (SWIM) to own software integration, release execution, and launch readiness for assigned controllers. This is an individual contributor role responsible for aligning software, calibration, hardware, validation, systems, program, supplier, and external engineering teams to manage delivery plans, dependencies, risks, tradeoffs, and issue resolution—ensuring high-quality software is delivered on schedule.

The ideal candidate brings embedded software and real-time systems expertise, systems thinking, and cross-functional leadership. They can translate complex program needs into executable plans, influence without direct authority, provide technical direction, and communicate clearly with leadership. Experience in embedded controls, calibration, controls validation, systems integration, electrical architecture, or related technical product leadership is valuable.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead software integration planning and execution for assigned controllers and software releases, with emphasis on new, high-activity, or high-complexity applications.

  • Develop and communicate integrated software delivery plans across GM teams and external partners, aligning requirements, dependencies, timing, priorities, risks, and release readiness.

  • Lead cross-functional alignment across software, calibration, validation, hardware, systems, suppliers, and program stakeholders.

  • Drive software execution forums and operating cadences to track progress, resolve barriers, communicate decisions and recovery plans, and support on-time, high-quality delivery.

  • Lead project-specific software verification and validation planning, including required documentation and leadership alignment, while ensuring Controls Process of Engineering activities are completed to program milestones and quality expectations.

  • Identify, track, and resolve technical blockers, resource constraints, coordination gaps, and program risks—including memory and CPU tradeoffs—engaging subject matter experts and escalating when necessary.

  • Support root-cause investigations and corrective-action leadership for critical integration and launch issues, ensuring timely ownership and closure.

  • Foster, document, and scale best practices that improve software quality, development efficiency, integration effectiveness, and execution consistency.

  • Represent software integration in leadership reviews and cross-functional forums, and train, coach, and mentor team members in integration leadership, structured problem solving, and effective execution.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related engineering field with equivalent practical experience.

  • 5+ years of experience in any of the following: embedded software, controls, calibration, systems integration, validation, electrical architecture, or related technical product development.

  • Demonstrated experience leading complex technical workstreams, projects, or cross-functional initiatives in a product development environment.

  • Strong understanding of real-time embedded systems and the interactions among software, hardware, calibration, and validation activities.

  • Demonstrated ability to build executable plans, manage technical dependencies, and deliver results in a complex and demanding development environment.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to work through unusual or difficult issues with incomplete information.

  • Experience leading meetings, driving alignment, and influencing peers, partners, and suppliers without direct authority.

  • Working knowledge of embedded software development and integration practices, including software builds, testing, validation, configuration management, and issue tracking.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical status, risks, and recommendations clearly to leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.

  • 7+ years of experience in embedded software, controls, calibration, systems integration, or related automotive product development.

  • Experience troubleshooting and root-causing vehicle or controller-level issues in development, validation, launch, or production environments.

  • Understanding of vehicle electrical architecture, communication networks, and the broader Software Defined Vehicle landscape.

  • Experience integrating software, hardware, calibration, and validation activities across multiple teams or organizations.

  • Experience leading cross-functional initiatives with high technical complexity, aggressive timing, and multiple stakeholders.

  • Experience working with suppliers and external engineering partners.

  • Familiarity with configuration management systems, build tools, and issue-tracking workflows.

  • Experience in propulsion, chassis, brakes, or other automotive control systems.

  • Experience in design release, calibration, controls validation, or related vehicle integration functions.

  • Experience driving process improvement, best-practice development, or lessons-learned activities.

  • Familiarity with Agile methods, structured problem solving, or change-management practices.
