Software Engineering Manager, Rocky Program

The Boeing Company is looking for a Software Engineering Manager to join our Space Mission Systems (SMS) team, on the Rocky program, in Albuquerque, NM. This Software Engineering manager will help lead end-to-end software development, including software architecture, design, development, and testing to meet the Rocky program software development schedule and milestones.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Manage staffing needs and grow the skills/capabilities of the organization.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders and partners, provide oversight of technical approaches, products and processes.

  • Must have the ability to solve complex problems and the ability to work multiple tasks simultaneously, and must be familiar with managing development projects and industry equivalent practices.

  • Experience supporting New Business Campaigns and having the technical ability to work with the engineering community.

  • Forecast, obtain, and manage personnel to meet project and organizational requirements; acquire, deploy and schedule personnel to meet organizational objectives.

  • Determines critical skills within an organization or functional area; develops and implements staffing plans to ensure necessary skills are available within the company.

  • Develop and motivate employees.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite in Albuquerque, NM.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):

  • Active US Top Secret clearancewith ability to obtain a TS/SCI clearance post-start

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Candidates must have at least one year of experience in a leadership role (team leader, temp manager, large scale cross functional project/program management, or formal manager experience) OR have completed the Boeing internal course “Exploring Leadership.”

  • 3+ years of experience managing and/or leading a team either formally or informally, with the ability to provide guidance, mentorship, and support to team members

  • 3+ years of experience leading projects and/or individuals in software development lifecycle tasks

  • Experience with Software Engineering principles including, but not limited to, Software Configuration Management, Software Architecture and Design, and Software Life Cycle Management

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science

  • Experience with systems engineering or software development on space-based or ground-based systems

  • Experience at successfully managing and being part of a complex IPT to produce results within budget, on schedule, and to performance requirements

  • Solid understanding of Java, C++, and/or Python full stack development and object-oriented programming skills

  • Familiarity of software dependency management and automation services (e.g. Ivy, Maven, Gradle, Git, Jenkins, etc.)

  • Familiarity with practices such as test-driven development (TDD), agile software development, DevSecOps, and CI/CD management

  • Familiarity with one or more of the following: control systems, embedded FPGA, low latency deterministic, operator interfaces, and/or control gimbals, ground antennas, optical sensors

  • Active TS/SCI clearance
