About the Role
S&P Dow Jones Indices is seeking a highly experienced Lead Software Engineer to play a pivotal role in developing and maintaining our Fixed Income platforms. In this position, you will contribute to building scalable, reliable, and auditable solutions that support our index offerings. You will evaluate emerging technologies, lead system design efforts, and ensure the delivery of high-quality financial applications. This role involves hands-on development, team mentorship, and collaboration across cross-functional teams to drive innovation and operational excellence.
The Team
Our Fixed Income value stream focuses on delivering robust calculation engines essential for managing our fixed income indices. We operate with a product-first mindset, following Agile principles, and are committed to modernizing our technology stack to meet evolving industry standards. As a leader in this space, you will help shape the future of our index processing capabilities.
Responsibilities
Design and develop high-performance calculation engines and services for fixed income indices, processing large-scale financial data efficiently.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement scalable, reliable solutions supporting critical business operations and client needs.
Drive technical excellence through code reviews, architecture discussions, and establishing best practices for system reliability and maintainability.
Work within Agile development cycles to deliver features that enhance our fixed income technology platform, aligning with industry standards.
Mentor junior developers, fostering technical growth and knowledge sharing within the team.
Lead initiatives to modernize existing systems and adopt new technologies to improve performance, scalability, and maintainability.
Architect and oversee calculation engines and analytics services, balancing latency, throughput, cost, and accuracy.
Implement end-to-end data lineage, reconciliation, anomaly detection, reproducibility, auditability, and version control across analytics models and data inputs/outputs.
Lead, mentor, and grow a team of engineers and quantitative developers, setting clear expectations for technical quality and rigor.
AI Integration: Design, develop, and deploy AI-driven solutions and machine learning models to enhance financial data processing, anomaly detection, data reconciliation, and advanced analytics.
Independent Execution: Operate with a high degree of autonomy, quickly ramping up on complex financial domains and new technologies to drive the platform build-out with minimal oversight.
Compensation/Benefits Information: (This section is only applicable to Canadian Candidates):
S&P Global states that the anticipated range of compensation for this position is 93,000 CAD to 150,000 CAD. Final compensation for this role will be based on the individual’s performance, geographic location, as well as experience level, skill set, training, licenses, and certifications.

What We're Looking For:
Basic Required Qualifications:
10+ years of software development experience with Enterprise Java Development: Java 17/21 or equivalent JVM languages (such as Kotlin, Scala), including concurrency, JVM tuning, and memory management
Enterprise Framework Experience: Spring ecosystem (Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Spring Security) or comparable enterprise frameworks such as Quarkus, Micronaut, or Jakarta EE
Distributed Systems Architecture: Microservices design patterns, RESTful API development, and experience with message brokers such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, Apache Pulsar, or Amazon SQS
AI Engineering: hands-on experience building, deploying, and integrating AI/ML models, generative AI, or AI-driven analytics into enterprise software platforms
Proficiency with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
Extensive experience with SQL and NoSQL database technologies, including but not limited to PostgreSQL, document databases like MongoDB, and distributed databases such as Cassandra.
Proven expertise in fixed income system design and analytics.
Solid understanding of Agile methodologies and product development lifecycle.
Cloud Expertise: Deep, hands-on proficiency with AWS for building scalable, distributed systems and microservices architectures.
Autonomy & Agility: Demonstrated ability to work independently, learn complex new systems rapidly, and successfully lead greenfield platform buildouts.
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in financial services, especially fixed income securities, indices, or calculation engines.
Experience with Python or other scripting languages for data processing and automation.
Knowledge of containerization technologies such as Docker, orchestration platforms like Kubernetes, or enterprise container platforms including OpenShift.
Experience with CI/CD platforms and DevOps practices using tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or Azure DevOps.
Familiarity with performance optimization and high-frequency data processing systems.
Experience with AI-augmented software engineering practices and AI coding assistants.

Final compensation for this role will be based on the individual’s performance, geographic location, as well as experience level, skill set, training, licenses, and certifications.
