Full Job Description
OVERVIEW:

As part of the Engineering and Technology Raptor Avionics Organization at Lockheed Martin Space, this role leads a team responsible for the development of software products that enable spacecraft subsystem integration, verification, and mission success. The team develops software tools used to operate, control, automate, and collect data from Special Test Equipment (STE), and hardware used in spacecraft and ground test environments. As a Software Engineering Associate Manager, you will provide both technical and people leadership across multiple efforts, ensuring alignment to program cost, schedule, and technical objectives while fostering a collaborative, high-performing engineering team. This role requires close coordination across systems, software, mechanical, manufacturing, and test organizations to ensure successful hardware execution.

What does this role look like?

You will lead a team responsible for the design, development, integration, and sustainment of software supporting spacecraft and measurement systems. You will oversee Agile development execution to ensure delivery of reliable software that enable automated testing, data acquisition, and system control. You will provide technical guidance in software architecture, development, integration, and verification, and support resolution of complex software and hardware issues involving test equipment and instrumentation. You will also be responsible for staffing, work assignment, and performance management, while mentoring engineers and supporting their technical and career development. In addition, you will collaborate across functional teams, communicate status and risks to leadership, and support successful hardware integration and test execution.

Responsibilities Include:
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of software engineers, including staffing, onboarding, performance management, and career development.
• Assign and prioritize work in alignment with program objectives, Agile sprint planning, and team capacity.
• Provide technical leadership for software design, development, integration, and test supporting spacecraft subsystems.
• Guide resolution of complex software and system integration issues across hardware-software interfaces.
• Ensure adherence to software engineering standards, processes, and practices throughout the development lifecycle.
• Lead execution to meet cost, schedule, and technical performance objectives across software deliverables.
• Communicate program status, technical risks, and issues to program, functional, and senior leadership, including customer-facing communication when required.
• Support proposal development, resource planning, and cost estimation activities.
• Drive continuous improvement in software development processes, tools, and automation.

Basic Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
• 5+ years of professional experience in software development, integration, or test across the full software development lifecycle.
• Experience with Agile or Scrum software development methodologies.
• Experience supporting software integration and system-level testing in complex environments.
• Demonstrated project or team leadership experience with responsibility for technical, schedule, and cost performance.
• U.S. Citizenship required due to work location.

Desired skills
• Background supporting Special Test Equipment (STE) development and test environments.
• Strong understanding of software verification, validation, and test automation techniques.
• Experience coordinating across multidisciplinary teams during product development.
• Experience with test environments such as vibration, shock, or thermal-vacuum (TVAC) testing.
• Proficiency with software integration, test automation, and debugging complex systems.
• Experience using GitLab or other Git-based version control systems.
• Experience working in aerospace or high-reliability systems (space, missile, defense).
• Strong communication skills with ability to engage technical, program, and customer stakeholders.

• Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and lead cross-functional technical efforts.

Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California, Massachusetts, and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington or Washington DC is $113,900 - $200,905. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate's final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.

(Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
This position is incentive plan eligible.

Premium Pay Statement

Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in most major metropolitan areas in California, Massachusetts, and New York is $131,000 - $227,125. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate's final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.
