Full Job Description
Position Purpose:
As a Software Engineer Manager, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of innovative products while supporting the growth of the next generation of engineering talent. In this role, you will be responsible for driving strategic technology decisions, building scalable and resilient systems, and delivering solutions that align with organizational objectives, including retail and promotional pricing as well as pricing optimization initiatives.

In addition, you will collaborate with strategic vendors to ensure that third-party tools and applications are accessible and effectively leveraged by product teams. You will also play a key role in guiding the adoption of AI/ML-driven solutions to enable data-driven decision-making and enhance automation across the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

40% Delivery & Execution:
  • Collaborates and pairs with product team members (UX, engineering, and product management) to create secure, reliable, scalable software solutions
  • Drives strategic technical decisions and influences architecture to build highly scalable, performant, and resilient systems
  • Designs and implements solutions incorporating AI/ML capabilities to improve automation, forecasting, and business outcomes
  • Builds and enhances systems supporting retail pricing, promotions, and optimization, ensuring accuracy, scalability, and performance
  • Documents, reviews and ensures that all quality and change control standards are met
  • Writes custom code or scripts to automate infrastructure, monitoring services, and test cases
  • Works with vendors and partners for the successful implementation of critical tooling and platforms
  • Creates meaningful dashboards, logging, alerting, and responses to ensure that issues are captured and addressed proactively
  • Contributes to enterprise-wide tools to drive destructive testing, automation, and engineering empowerment
  • Evaluates new technologies, including AI/ML platforms and tools, for adoption across the enterprise
  • Participates in and leads review board sessions to drive consistency across the enterprise
  • Fills in on product teams for engineers who are out of the office


20% Support & Enablement:
  • Fields questions from business, engineers, product teams, or support teams
  • Monitors tools and participates in conversations to encourage collaboration across product teams
  • Provides application support for software running in production
  • Acts as a technical escalation point for the engineers on the team, especially for complex system and pricing-related issues


30% People:
  • Provides leadership, mentoring, and coaching to Software Engineers
  • Actively develops team capabilities in modern engineering practices, AI/ML adoption, and system design
  • Attracts, retains, and develops top talent to build a world class Software Engineering Team
  • Conducts annual and mid-year reviews by reviewing individual development plans and team feedback
  • Fosters collaboration with team members to drive consistency across product teams, and finds opportunities to expose engineers to career interests
  • Acts as a proponent of modern software development practices and data-driven decision-making
  • Guides team members in strategic thinking, alignment, analysis, and execution tasks within and across product teams
  • Builds a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and engineering excellence focused on scalable systems
  • Participates in and contributes to learning activities around modern software design and development core practices (communities of practice)


10% Learning:
  • Learns, through reading, tutorials, and videos, new technologies and best practices being used within other technology organizations

Direct Manager/Direct Reports:
  • Reports to the Software Engineer Sr. Manager


Travel Requirements:
  • Typically requires overnight travel 5% to 20% of the time.


Physical Requirements:
  • Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.


Working Conditions:
  • Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must be eighteen years of age or older.
  • Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.
  • Mastery of an object oriented programming language (preferably Java)

  • 7-9 years of relevant work experience
  • Mastery of a modern programming language (preferably java & Python)
  • Experience productionizing statistical models, AI/ML systems, and Generative AI solutions at enterprise scale
  • Experience working with or integrating AI/ML models and data-driven systems
  • Experience with retail pricing systems, promotions, or price optimization platforms
  • Mastery of a modern web application framework such as Ruby on Rails, Spring MVC, and Node.js
  • Mastery of writing SQL queries against a relational database and No SQL databases
  • Experience championing AI agents to improve developer productivity, accelerate delivery, and enhance team effectiveness.
  • Experience managing large-scale solution delivery in highly matrixed and cross-functional environments.
  • Mastery of modern product development processes and pipelines
  • Proficient in effective troubleshooting and issue resolution techniques
  • Proficient in effective system monitoring and log analysis techniques
  • Capable of understanding complicated systems quickly
