Position Overview

As a Software Engineer Lead within PNC's Lending Technology organization, you will be based in Pittsburgh, PA, Strongsville, OH or Dallas, TX.

We are seeking a Software Engineer Lead to drive the design, development, and delivery of scalable, high-quality applications using modern Java-based technologies. This role blends hands-on engineering with technical leadership, guiding a team in building microservices, integrating enterprise platforms, and advancing engineering best practices within a collaborative Agile environment. Responsibilities will include:
• Leading the design, development, and maintenance of backend services using Java and Spring Boot
• Driving architecture decisions and best practices for scalable, resilient, and loosely coupled microservices
• Overseeing the development and integration of RESTful APIs for internal and external systems
• Partnering with cross-functional teams within Agile frameworks to deliver high-quality, business-aligned solutions
• Guiding CI/CD pipeline strategy and DevOps practices to improve deployment efficiency and reliability
• Mentoring engineers, conducting code reviews, and promoting high standards for code quality and performance
• Managing source control and development workflows using tools such as Bitbucket and automated pipelines
• Utilizing build tools like Maven or Gradle for dependency management and application packaging
• Leading troubleshooting, performance tuning, and application optimization efforts using tools such as Dynatrace
• Providing technical oversight for integrations with API management and gateway solutions including Apigee and DataPower
• Guiding database design and data strategy across relational and non-relational systems
• Facilitating technical design discussions, establishing standards, and driving continuous improvement across the team

  • Applies modern principles, methodologies and tools to advance business initiatives and capabilities.
