Position Summary...What you'll do...We are seeking a talented Software Engineer to join the Catalog Derivation Platform team within Walmart's Catalog organization. The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of hands-on Java backend development experience, with deep expertise in Spring Boot, Kafka, NoSQL databases, and BigQuery. You will play a key role in building and maintaining scalable services that drive product attribute derivation, variant redesign, and catalog enrichment. Strong skills in writing unit and functional test cases are essential, as is a demonstrated ability to leverage AI-powered tools and workflows to boost developer productivity and accelerate delivery.
Key Responsibilities:- Design, develop, and maintain robust Java backend services for the Derivation Platform, enabling advanced product attribute derivation and catalog enrichment
- Integrate and manage real-time messaging pipelines using Kafka
- Work with NoSQL databases and BigQuery for scalable data storage, analytics, and enrichment workflows
- Write comprehensive unit and functional test cases to ensure high code quality and reliability
- Utilize AI tools and agentic workflows to automate development tasks, improve code quality, and drive innovation within the Catalog team
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Product Setup, Variant Management, Uber, Editorial) to deliver impactful catalog solutions
- Stay current with emerging technologies, backend engineering best practices, and AI advancements
Required Skills: - 3+ years of hands-on Java backend development experience
- Strong proficiency in Spring Boot, Kafka, NoSQL databases, and BigQuery
- Experience writing unit and functional tests
- Demonstrated ability to use AI tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, agentic workflows, or similar) to enhance productivity and code quality
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills
Preferred: - Experience with cloud platforms and CI/CD automation
- Familiarity with catalog data models, product attribute derivation, and orchestration tools
