Full Job Description
Overview

The Marketing Enablement & Technology (MET) team sits within Instacart's Marketing organization, building the systems, data pipelines, and platforms powering Instacart's growth. Operating at the intersection of Marketing, Product, and Engineering, we own the platforms behind campaign feeds, audience targeting, event pipelines, and QA automation.

We're seeking a Software Engineer II for the Technical Search Visibility pod to build features and systems that enhance Instacart's search engine visibility and drive organic traffic - one of our most substantial growth levers. You'll develop full-stack features that improve SEO performance across millions of web pages, contribute to data pipelines that surface optimization insights, and work across our stack to ensure our platform is discoverable by millions of users. You'll deliver features end-to-end, contribute to technical decisions, and partner closely with Marketing and Product to translate growth requirements into scalable solutions.
About the Job
  • Build and ship full SEO and AEO features end-to-end with minimal oversight, from development through experimentation and rollout.
  • Design, build, and ship high-quality full-stack features that enhance search engine visibility, AI answer engine performance, and organic traffic with a strong sense of urgency and ownership.
  • Apply technical best practices to deliver performant, observable, and cost-aware code that improves traditional search rankings, LLM visibility, and user experience.
  • Contribute to data pipelines for SEO and AEO data ingestion, transformation, and delivery, applying simple, reusable abstractions to keep the system healthy as it grows.
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and marketing partners to translate user needs into technical requirements, surface trade-offs, and deliver on shared goals.
About You
Minimum Qualifications
  • 2-4 years of software engineering experience with proficiency in React, Ruby, Python, PostgreSQL, and SQL.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and launch complete features end-to-end with minimal oversight, including development, experimentation, and production rollout.
  • Experience with distributed systems and data engineering - designing pipelines, optimizing schemas, and ensuring data quality - with exposure to Airflow or DBT.
  • Ability to write performant code and improve system observability through logging and metrics, identifying and resolving bottlenecks as they arise.
  • Strong product mindset with the ability to translate user needs into technical requirements and understand how your work impacts business metrics.
  • Effective communicator who can collaborate across marketing, product, and engineering partners to align on requirements and deliver solutions.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working on SEO/AEO initiatives or familiarity with SEO best practices, answer engine optimization for LLMs, structured data (Schema.org), search engine crawling/indexing, and Core Web Vitals.
  • Familiarity with how AI-powered search engines and LLMs consume and surface content, with curiosity about optimizing for AI answer generation.
  • Experience with big data technologies (Apache Spark, Airflow, Hadoop), NoSQL databases, and data warehousing platforms (Snowflake, Redshift).
  • Track record of proactively raising and resolving technical debt to keep code and systems healthy.
  • Experience launching experiments and analyzing results, including A/B testing frameworks for measuring SEO/AEO impact.

About Instacart

Instacart is an American company that operates a grocery delivery and pick-up service in the United States and Canada. The company offers its services via a website and mobile app. The service allows customers to order groceries from participating retailers with the shopping being done by a personal shopper. Instacart was founded in 2012 by entrepreneur Apoorva Mehta, a former Amazon.com employee. Apoorva was born in India and moved with his family to Canada in 2000. He studied engineering at the University of Waterloo and graduated in 2008. He was a participant in Y Combinator's Summer 2012 batch, which eventually led to the creation of Instacart. In 2013, Mehta was included on the Forbes 30 Under 30 list. Apoorva previously worked at BlackBerry, Qualcomm, and then Amazon as a supply chain engineer, where he developed fulfillment systems to move packages from Amazon's warehouses to customers' homes. Before founding Instacart, Apoorva had tried to start at least 20 other services. He tried building an ad network for social gaming companies, and developing a social network specifically for lawyers, among other start-ups. Instacart originally launched in San Francisco. By April 2015, the firm had about 200 employees. It introduced a new policy around June allowing some shoppers to choose to be part-time employees, starting with Chicago and Boston and extending its offer to shoppers in Atlanta, Miami, and Washington D.C. the following month.
