Full Job Description
Software Engineer II - Bank Accounts Team

We're looking for a Software Engineer II to join the nascent US Bank Accounts team, building products that enable businesses to open, manage, and move money directly within our ecosystem.

You'll help evolve and scale existing capabilities to enable significant growth, refine and deepen customer experiences, and build new products that expand our offering.

As an early member of the team, you'll have the opportunity to shape technical design, architecture, and roadmap decisions; own projects from beginning to end; and help define the team's culture and identity.

You'll partner closely with engineering, product, and key stakeholders to turn complex banking needs into reliable, scalable customer experiences. This Chicago-based role is part of the broader Financial Services product organization, which owns the full suite of financial products we offer to our customers.

What you'll do:
  • Work on complex technical projects from requirements analysis through design, implementation, testing and launch into production.
  • Bring your own point of view on best engineering practices.
  • Be hands-on and contribute to the implementation. Identify and improve parts of the platform to make it more robust and scalable.
  • Your code will be used at scale and you are expected to think in that mindset when building features.
  • We launch fast and iterate often. Concretely, this means that within your first few weeks, you will bring live functionalities that impact many merchants and shoppers.
  • Build APIs and tooling according to quality principles such as performance and code quality.
  • Collaborate across teams and time zones to get projects over the finish line.

Who you are:
  • You enjoy seeing the big picture and understanding how your code impacts the business
  • You have experience with Java, Web Services, REST APIs, SQL/PostgreSql, and experience with Kafka and Elasticsearch is a plus
  • You have a good understanding of Software Engineering practices and interest in product knowledge
  • You are familiar with complex large scale distributed systems
  • You value involving other people to hear different perspectives
  • Added bonus: if you have worked in customer developer experience (e.g. tooling, observability) or payment related teams in the past

Minimum qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience in the software development industry
  • Full professional proficiency in English
  • This role is based out of our Chicago office. We are an office-first company and value in-person collaboration; we do not offer remote-only roles.

Total rewards & compensation

The annual base salary range for this role is $154,000 - $200,000. Compensation is based on factors including qualifications, experience, and location. Total compensation package includes equity (RSUs), 401(k), health, dental, vision, and more.

In-office expectations

This role is based in our Chicago office. We're an office-first company and expect employees to work in-office at least 3 days a week on average. This approach helps strike a balance between bringing people together for in-person collaboration and learning from each other, while also supporting flexibility.

What's next?

Ensuring a smooth and enjoyable candidate experience is critical for us. We aim to get back to you regarding your application within 5 business days. Our interview process tends to take about 4 weeks to complete, but may fluctuate depending on the role. If you have specific time constraints, please communicate them with your recruiter, and we'll do our best to accommodate them where possible.
