Full Job Description
The Engineering Services team is looking for a Software Engineer who wants to see their work land directly in merchants' hands. Sitting within Commerce's professional services organization, our team designs, builds, and maintains single-click apps published to the BigCommerce App Marketplace. We also deliver data migration projects that help merchants move onto BigCommerce with confidence. Because our roadmap is shaped by what merchants and services teams encounter in the field, you'll work with short feedback loops, varied projects, and code that ships to real stores quickly. What The Team Owns • The end-to-end lifecycle of a portfolio of single-click apps on the BigCommerce App Marketplace: design, development, publishing, versioning, and ongoing maintenance • The shared foundations these apps depend on - OAuth-based install flows, webhook processing, and services that scale reliably across thousands of merchant stores • Tooling and delivery for merchant data migration projects • Production health of our apps, including monitoring, triage, and resolution of merchant-reported issues What You'll Do: • Collaborate with the team to design, build, and maintain single-click apps across the full stack - backend services in Node/TypeScript and PHP, and frontends in React • Integrate deeply with BigCommerce platform APIs (REST and GraphQL), webhooks, and OAuth flows • Write code that is performant, maintainable, clear, and concise, with appropriate test coverage • Build new features with a focus on extensibility and quality - a single codebase serving many merchants raises the bar for both • Support apps in production: monitor health, troubleshoot issues and resolve merchant-impacting bugs • Contribute to data migration projects, from scripting and validation through cutover • Participate in code reviews to maintain and improve quality • Partner with Product Managers, solutions architects, and other services teams to translate merchant requirements into technical designs, occasionally joining client and partner conversations alongside Product Managers • Move comfortably between projects and codebases, choosing the right tools and patterns for each job Who You Are: • 3+ years of professional experience as a Software Engineer • You have a solid understanding of programming principles and write code that others enjoy inheriting • Hands-on experience with NetJavaScript/TypeScript (Node) and/or PHP on the backend, and React and Next.js on the frontend - depth in one with willingness to work across the stack • Experience integrating with third-party APIs and services (REST, GraphQL, webhooks, OAuth) • You think in multi-tenant terms: one app, thousands of stores, and the performance, data-isolation, and upgrade considerations that come with that • You're comfortable context-switching across concurrent projects and picking up unfamiliar codebases quickly • You have excellent interpersonal skills - able to collaborate and communicate efficiently in person, video calls, Slack or email, including explaining technical concepts to non-engineering stakeholders • You're driven to take action and enjoy owning work from inception to delivery • You enjoy being part of a collaborative team focused on building products that delight customers and our partners • Preferred minimum: Bachelor's degree in CS or equivalent experience; or completion of a comprehensive software engineering boot camp. • Bonus: experience with ecommerce platforms, BigCommerce APIs, or building apps for a marketplace/app-store distribution model #LI-LH1 #LI-REMOTE (Pay Transparency Range: $111,956 - $167,934) Compensation Transparency The national base salary range for this role is posted above in this job post. Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as relevant experience, skills, qualifications and geographic location. We also consider internal equity to help ensure fair and consistent pay practices across our teams. Where applicable, this role may also be eligible for variable compensation (such as bonus or commission), equity, and benefits in accordance with local policies. Details will be shared during the hiring process. We are committed to equitable and transparent pay practices that align to market data, internal equity, and individual contribution.
