Job Description

Frontgrade Technologies is seeking an Embedded Systems Software Engineer II to support the development of advanced mission processing systems for space and military applications. These rugged, high-reliability systems integrate processing, I/O, power, storage, networking, FPGA, and other specialized modules.

This hands-on role spans embedded Linux, boot software, board support packages, device drivers, microcontroller firmware, FPGA logic, hardware interfaces, and application-level software. The engineer applies a broad understanding of embedded-software practices to moderately complex assignments under general direction.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, integrate, debug, and maintain embedded software for mission processing systems
  • Develop and support embedded Linux platforms, bootloaders, board support packages, device drivers, and board bring-up
  • Develop microcontroller firmware for power control, sequencing, monitoring, communications, and board management
  • Develop embedded applications, diagnostic utilities, manufacturing tools, and system test software
  • Participate in requirements development, design and code reviews, verification, documentation, and controlled releases
  • Collaborate with architects, system engineering and test engineering teams


Qualifications

Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience
  • Minimum two (2) years of related experience in embedded-software or firmware-development. OR (6) years of experience may be considered in lieu of a Bachelors Degree. OR No experience required in lieu of Masters Degree.
  • Working proficiency in C and C++ for embedded or systems level development
  • Knowledge of embedded Linux, BSPs, bootloaders, device drivers, kernel integration, or board bring-up
  • Ability to develop microcontroller firmware and interface with board-level peripherals
  • Knowledge of source control, build systems, testing, technical documentation, and multidisciplinary engineering practices
    Preferred Qualifications
  • Aerospace, defense, avionics, space, or other high-reliability product development
  • Development of FPGA logic using VHDL, Verilog, or System Verilog
  • ARM, Power Architecture, or RISC-V platforms; real-time operating systems; and bare-metal development
  • AMD/Xilinx or Intel FPGA tools and embedded Linux environments such as Yocto, or Peta Linux
  • Experience using JTAG debuggers, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and protocol analyzers
  • Experience supporting products through architecture, development, integration, qualification, production introduction, and sustaining engineering
