CTG is seeking a Software Engineer II to join our client's development team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced backend engineer who enjoys designing, developing, and supporting high-performing enterprise applications while working on complex technical initiatives. The ideal candidate has strong Java and Spring Boot expertise, Azure development experience, and a passion for building scalable, secure APIs.
Location: Buffalo, NY (Candidate must be able to work onsite Monday-Thursday, 4 days per week.)
Duration: 12 months
Primary Responsibilities- Design, develop, test, and maintain enterprise backend applications using Java and Spring Boot.
- Build and enhance RESTful APIs and microservices supporting business-critical applications.
- Perform systems analysis, technical design, coding, debugging, testing, and implementation for complex software solutions.
- Develop cloud-based solutions utilizing Azure Functions, Managed Identities, Key Vault, service integrations, and monitoring capabilities.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders, developers, QA, and operations teams throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Create technical specifications, project estimates, system documentation, and implementation plans.
- Conduct code reviews, unit testing, debugging, and root cause analysis to ensure high-quality software delivery.
- Analyze application integrations and dependencies across enterprise systems.
- Mentor junior developers and coordinate technical work on project initiatives.
- Recommend improvements to application architecture, development standards, and engineering best practices.
- Support production applications, troubleshoot issues, and implement performance improvements.
- Ensure compliance with development standards, security requirements, risk controls, and regulatory policies.
Scope of Responsibilities- Independently perform advanced systems analysis, application design, and software development activities.
- Lead technical efforts on small to large development projects while collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- Work closely with senior technology leadership, business partners, vendors, and project managers.
- Provide technical guidance to less experienced developers and support project delivery from design through implementation.
- Contribute to strategic technology initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.
Supervisory/Managerial Responsibilities- No direct supervisory responsibilities.
- Provides technical leadership, mentoring, and project coordination for junior developers and project team members.
Education and Experience Required- Associate's degree and 5+ years of systems analysis/application development experience; or a combined 7+ years of higher education and/or relevant work experience, including at least 5 years of application development experience.
- Strong backend development experience (this is not a front-end/UI development role).

- Experience evaluating and implementing new technologies and development best practices.
- Proactive, detail-oriented, and action-driven approach to software development.
