Job Description

Summary

The Software Engineer I position works within the Application Development & Support team to provide software programming for new software, production support and maintenance for existing software, as well as ad-hoc support of key departmental business areas, databases, applications, and tools which drive business functions. The Software Engineer I works under close supervision and with detailed instruction from management or lead software engineers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• Gains a thorough understanding of functional requirements for new software requests.
• Programs, designs, tests documents, and deploys code to defined requirements
• Practices good software engineering techniques and standards to reduce coding errors and ensures robustness and efficiency of work products.
• Partners with software team in the development of software engineering processes.
• Works to identify and resolve technical or product problems.
• Participates in software project meetings and provides status reports.

Education and/or Experience

AA and 4+ years' experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Computer Skills
  • Good knowledge and experience of Python, Java or any other modern object-oriented programming languages.
  • Good knowledge and experience of API/Microservices architecture, Object-oriented design and programming.
  • Good knowledge and experience of modern web application development frameworks, such as Angular, React, JavaScript, Spring Boot, Sprint MVC, Hibernate, J2EE.
  • Good knowledge and experience of modern RDBMS products (Oracle, PostgreSQL etc.) and SQL programming language.
  • Good knowledge and experience with Unix/Linux, scripting languages (such as Python, Shell etc.), Kubernetes, DevOps (Jenkins and CI/CD)
  • Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
  • Experience in Agile software development lifecycle. Familiar with JIRA/Confluence tools.

Work Location

This position must work on-site at the San Diego Headquarters for purposes of providing adequate support to internal clients; being available for face-to-face interactions and coordination of work with other employees, colleagues, clients, or vendors; as well as for facilitation of quick and effective decisions through collaboration with stakeholders. Remote work is not an option for these purposes.

Working Hours

This is a full-time non-exempt position requiring one to be able to work overtime from time to time in order to get the job done. Therefore, one must have the ability to work nights, weekends or on holidays as required. This may be changed at any time to meet the needs of the business. The typical working hours for this position are Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm.

Travel

This position requires no travel however attendance maybe required at various local conferences and meetings.
